    摘要: An object of the present invention is to provide a wheel bearing apparatus which can prevent generation of cracks during the face spline forming process. The present invention provides a wheel bearing apparatus in which a double row rolling bearing and a constant velocity universal joint are detachably united, the double row rolling bearing comprising an outer member formed on its outer circumference with a body mounting flange to be mounted on a body of a vehicle and its inner circumference with double row outer raceway surfaces; an inner member including a hub wheel and at least one inner ring, the hub wheel being integrally formed with a wheel mounting flange on its one end and an axially extending cylindrical portion and the inner ring being press-fitted onto the cylindrical portion of the hub wheel, the inner member being formed with double row inner raceway surfaces to be oppositely arranged to the double row outer raceway surfaces; and double row rolling elements rollably disposed between the double row outer raceway surfaces of the outer member and the double row inner raceway surfaces of the inner member; the inner ring being axially immovably secured by a caulked portion formed by plastically deforming the end of the cylindrical portion radially outward; the constant velocity universal joint having an outer joint member including a cup-shaped mouth portion, a shoulder portion forming a bottom of the mouth portion, and a shaft portion axially extending from the shoulder portion and formed on its inner circumference with female thread all of which are integrally formed; and end faces of the shoulder portion of the outer joint member and the caulked portion being formed with face splines respectively to join the double row rolling bearing and the constant velocity universal joint in a torque transmittable manner characterized in that the face spline of the caulked portion has a portion in which a tooth height of the tooth space of a portion radially outer than the pitch circle diameter is set lower than that of other portions.

    摘要: An object of the present invention is to establish an optimum specification based on the tightening force of the radial lip of the pack-seal and to provide a seal device for a wheel bearing which can improve the sealability under both low temperature environment and muddy water environment. According to the present invention, there is provided a seal device for a wheel bearing, the seal device being formed as a pack seal comprising an annular sealing plate and an annular slinger each having a substantially "L" shaped cross-section and arranged oppositely toward each other; the sealing plate comprising a core metal and a sealing member integrally adhered to the core metal via galvanized adhesion, the core metal being press-formed of steel sheet and including a cylindrical fitting portion adapted to be press-fitted into an inner circumference of the end of the outer member via a predetermined interference and a radially inner portion extending radially inward from one end of the fitting portion; the slinger comprising a cylindrical portion adapted to be press-fitted on to an outer circumference of the inner member and a standing portion extending radially outward from the cylindrical portion; and the sealing member comprising a base portion covering an inner circumferential surface of the core metal, a side lip inclined radially outward from the base portion and slide-contacting with the standing portion of the slinger via a predetermined axial interference, and a radial lip slide-contacting with the cylindrical portion of the slinger via a predetermined radial interference characterized in that a garter spring is mounted on the radial lip, that the tightening force of the garter spring is set to 50% or more of total tightening force of the radial lip, and that the tightening force of the radial lip without the garter spring is set to 3N or more.

According to the present invention, there is provided a wheel bearing apparatus characterized in that the protecting cover is formed of non-magnetic steel sheet as having a cup-shaped configuration by press working and comprises a cylindrical fitting portion press-fitted into the inner circumference of the inner-side end of the outer member, a disc-shaped shielding portion extending radially inward from the fitting portion via a radially reducing portion and the inner-side surface of the shielding portion being adapted to be arranged closely to or contacted with a rotation speed detecting sensor, and a bottom portion continuous to the shielding portion via a stepped portion to close the inner-side end of the inner member; and that a full deflection of the side surface of the shielding portion caused by a load same as that applied to the protecting cover when it is press-fitted into the outer member is limited to a predetermined value or less.
