The seat transceiver is coupled to a vehicle function controller and located in a position corresponding to a vehicle seat. The wearable device includes a wireless transceiver configured as a near field radio transceiver, a processor coupled to the wireless transceiver and at least one memory configured to store a user identifier. In operation, the processor receives a request from the seat transceiver via the wireless transceiver. Once a request is received the processor transmits an acknowledge comprising the user identifier via the wireless transceiver. The user identifier is used for authentication of the user by the vehicle function controller. The vehicle function controller enables one or more user-controlled vehicle functions dependent on the authentication.
