The apparatus comprises an integer signal decoder (620) which is configured to decode an integer signal code included in coded data in each frame by using linear predictive decoding and outputs an integer signal; and an amplitude reverse adjusting section which is configured to make amplitude adjustment to the integer signal by using an amplitude adjustment amount contained in the coded data and to output an amplitude-reverse-adjusted signal. The integer signal decoder (620) comprises a sample buffer (6206) which holds at least as many last sample values in the previous frame as the number equal to an order P used in linear prediction. The integer signal decoder (620) further comprises an adjustment amount buffer (6205) which is configured to hold the amplitude adjustment amount of the previous frame; and an interframe correction section (6204) which is configured to correct an amplitude of at least last P sample values in the previous frame held in the sample buffer (6206) on the basis of an amplitude adjustment amount of the current frame.

The present invention aims to improve the compression ratio of an encoding method using a dictionary for such as LZ77, LZ78 or LZW for a sample string of an audio signal or an image signal. According to the present invention, the samples are aligned from the MSB side (73), and for an N C -th (N C is the character size, for example, eight bits) character C1(i), the samples are partitioned by starting from the MSB side, and a partitioned portion less than N C is added with dummy bits "0" until the size reaches N C to form a character (74). In this processing, lower bits in the samples can be ignored, mask data M1(i) is created in which digits in the ignorable bit and dummy bits for each C1(i) are set to "0" and effective bits (digits) are set to "1" (75), C1(i) is compared with each character D(j) in a character string for an index j in the dictionary using M1(i) to check whether or not there are matches for effective digits portions in C1(i). If there are matches, C1(i) is considered to match D(j).

A long-term prediction coding and decoding method and apparatus are described in which an error signal sample is obtained by subtracting from a current sample of an input sample time-series signal a multiplication result obtained by multiplying a past sample which is a predetermined time lag older than the current sample of the input sample time-series signal, by a multiplier. There are four possible methods for outputting parameters of a quantized multiplier p' and time lag τ as follows: 1) To output p' and τ once in the frame; 2) to output the quantized multiplier p' in each sub-frame; 3) to output the time lag τ in each sub-frame; 4) to output p' and τ in each sub-frame. In any of the above cases, the parameters are outputted in coded form.
