摘要:
A method, system and article for producing an envelope having improved seal integrity. The method includes the steps of: disposing (A) at least one material at the interface of the adhesive seal between the flap and the body portion of the envelope, which material radiates thermal energy when combined with an activating agent. The envelope is then sealed by closing (B1 the flap onto the body portion of the envelope and combining (B2) the material with the activating agent at the sealing interface so as to change the thermal energy radiated therefrom. The seal is then inspected (C) to determine whether the thermal energy radiated from the activated material has changed thereby confirming that a seal has been produced between the flap and body portion of the envelope. The system and article are directed to the various modules of a mailpiece fabrication system employed to produce the mailpiece including an inspection module for confirming that a seal has been formed.

A method for producing an envelope having improved seal integrity. The method comprises the steps of disposing (A) at least one material (10) at the interface (IF) of the adhesive seal between the flap (12) and the body portion (14) of the envelope (16), which material exhibits a characteristic property when combined with an activating agent. The envelope is then sealed (B) by closing the flap (B1) onto the body portion of the envelope such that the activating agent combines (B2) with the material along the sealing interface. The sealing interface is inspected (C) to determine whether the material exhibits the characteristic property thereby confirming that a seal has been produced between the flap and body portion of the envelope. Various modules of a mailpiece fabrication system are employed to produce the mailpiece including an inspection module for confirming that a seal has been formed.

摘要:
An envelope feeder (200) for removing envelopes from an envelope stack. The envelope feeder comprises a shuttle plate (150) and a suction cup assembly. The shuttle plate (150) translates between a position under the envelope stack and another position partially remote from the envelope stack. The shuttle plate (150) includes an orifice (240) passing through its surface (252) and an envelope gripping mechanism (180) in connection with a vacuum valve (256). The suction cup assembly has a suction cup (230) connected to a hollow rod (233) that is in connection with another vacuum valve (238). An actuator (236) engages the suction cup (230) and moves the suction cup between an extended position and a retracted position. The suction cup (230) attaches to an envelope at the bottom of the envelope stack when it is in the extended position, and pulls the envelope toward the shuttle plate (150) as it moves to the retracted position. Then the envelope gripping mechanism (180) retains the envelope, allowing the shuttle plate to remove the envelope from the envelope stack.
