Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for concurrent communications between multiple transmission-reception points (TRPs) and a user equipment (UE). A default beam for each of the TRPs may be determined, and in the case that the default beams are unable to be concurrently received at the UE, a prioritization rule may be applied to determine which TRP uses the initially determined default beam, where the other TRP(s) may use a different beam. A UE also may be configured with a subset of control resource sets for each TRP, such that beams associated with different configured subsets are compatible and able to be concurrently received at the UE. Other techniques for providing compatibility between beams of multiple concurrent TRP transmissions include determination of a first beam, and selection of a second beam based on a mapping to the first beam, or explicit configuration by a base station.

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate controlling interference in a heterogeneous wireless communication environment. A Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) transmission from an interfering base station can be punctured based upon a puncturing pattern as a function of a cell identifier (ID) and a transmit time. Puncturing can be effectuated by applying power control. Thus, a punctured symbol or subframe can have a reduced transmit power or a transmit power set to zero. Further, the puncturing pattern can be defined on a subframe basis or on a symbol basis.

Techniques for sending control information relating to multiple downlink carriers and data on a single uplink carrier are described. A user equipment (UE) may be scheduled to transmit on a designated uplink carrier. The UE can multiplex control information for multiple downlink carriers with data for transmission on the uplink carrier in a same subframe. Multiplexing may be performed according to a type of the control information and/or an ordering, priority, or association of the downlink carriers. The UE can selectively encode the control information separately for each downlink carrier and/or jointly across downlink carriers. The control information may be mapped to a single layer or multiple layers of a data channel. The UE may send the multiplexed control information and data on the data channel in the subframe while maintaining a single-carrier waveform.

Wherein it is determined that an MBSFN signal has an increased allocation of subframes carrying MBSFN information, wherein one or more subframes previously reserved for unicast signals is allocated instead to multicast signals, the MBSFN signal is decoded according to the increased allocation to provide a multicast output.
