In particular, the method is for isomerising at least one branched saturated carboxylic acid by heating it in the presence of an effective amount of an iridium catalyst and an iodinated or brominated promoter, the promoter:Ir molar ratio being from 0.1:1 to 20:1. The method is particularly suitable for upgrading methyl-glutaric and ethyl-succinic acids into adipic acid.

The invention discloses a method for purifying adipic acid by crystallization or recrystallization in at least one carbolyxic acid. More precisely, it discloses an improvement in adipic acid crystallization or recrystallization, characterised in that the said crystallization or recrystallization is effected in at least one carboxylic acid with a melting point below 20 °C. The presence of carbon monoxide during crystallization or recrystallization can have a favourable effect on the adipic acid purity, in particular by reducing the content of metal catalyst traces of the adipic acid. The adipic acid purity can also be improved when the crystallization or recrystallization is effected in presence of a strong proton acid.

The present invention relates to an electrochemical process for the preparation of compounds which can be used as catalysts. The disclosed compounds comprise more specifically a transition metal with an oxidation degree of 0 or 1 associated to at least one monodentate or bidentate hydrosoluble phosphine. The process for the electrochemical synthesis of catalysts comprises the treatment by electrolysis of an aqueous solution containing at least a compound of a transition metal and a monodentate or bidentate hydrosoluble phosphine placed within the cathode compartment of an electrolysis cell of an electrolyser.
