The fuel injection device comprises a high-pressure accumulator chamber (2), a pressure intensifier (5) and a metering valve (6, 56). The pressure intensifier (5) comprises a working chamber (10) and a control chamber (11), which are separated from one another by an axially displaceable piston (12). A pressure change in the control chamber (11) of the pressure intensifier (5) leads to a pressure change in a compression chamber (15), the latter impinging a nozzle chamber (22) by means of a fuel inlet (28). The nozzle chamber (22) surrounds an injector valve member (29), which can for example be configured as a nozzle needle. A nozzle spring chamber (25) that impinges the injector valve member (29) can be filled on the high pressure side by the compression chamber (15) of the pressure intensifier (5) via a line (23) containing an input throttle (24). On the delivery side, the nozzle spring chamber (28) is connected to a chamber (11) of the pressure intensifier (5) via a line (26, 40) containing a delivery throttle (27).
