摘要: Methods and apparatus for facilitating the delivery of e-mail messages from a mobile communication device are disclosed. In one disclosed example, an end user of the mobile device enters e-mail message information corresponding to a new e-mail message through a user interface. Preferably, the user interface is an e-mail graphical user interface (GUI) provided by the mobile device. The mobile device identifies whether a packet data service (e.g. GPRS) for communicating e-mail messages is available to it. If the packet data service is available, the mobile device causes the e-mail message information to be sent via the packet data service. If the packet data service is unavailable, however, the mobile device causes the e-mail message information to be sent in a short message service (SMS) message via an SMS-to-Email service. Advantageously, a common GUI interface which does not change depending on the availability of the packet data service is utilized and service-specific formatting for SMS-to-Email by the end user is not required.

摘要: A method and method for displaying an image via a graphical user interface on a touch-sensitive display of an electronic device includes detecting a predetermined relation between a selection tool and the image. The image is panned in response to movement of the selection tool along the touch-sensitive display. The image is zoomed on in response to depression of the touch-sensitive display. An optional cursor may be activated upon detection of a first tap of the selection tool on the touch-sensitive display.

摘要: A handheld electronic device includes a reduced QWERTY keyboard and is enabled with disambiguation software. The device provides output in the form of a default output and a number of variants. The output is based largely upon the frequency, i.e., the likelihood that a user intended a particular output, but various features of the device provide additional variants that are not based solely on frequency and rather are provided by various logic structures resident on the device. The device enables editing during text entry and also provides a learning function that allows the disambiguation function to adapt to provide a customized experience for the user. The disambiguation function can be selectively disabled and an alternate keystroke interpretation system provided. Additionally, the device can facilitate the selection of variants by displaying a graphic of a special key of the keypad that enables a user to progressively select variants generally without changing the position of the user's hands on the device.

摘要: A device management method, is disclosed in which available features on a slave mobile device (110) are managed (monitored or controlled) by a slave manager module (115) commanded by a master device (120) through secure messages exchanged between the two devices using respective two-way electronic messaging capabilities (130) on the two devices (110, 120). Selection of the features of the slave mobile device (110) to be controlled or monitored is facilitated on the master device (120) through a master manager module (125) resident thereon. The features that are controlled or monitored may comprise any user-accessible feature (112) incorporated or installed on the slave mobile device (110) and user access to the feature may be prevented according to at least one criterion, such as: date of use, time of day of use, number of times of use, originator and recipient. User access to the feature may be prevented access to the user-accessible feature when usage limitations for the feature have been reached.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for dynamically labeling map objects for different views of a visually displayed map are disclosed. For each view of a plurality of different views of a map, a view of the map is rendered "on-the-fly" in a display. The technique is performed by retrieving map data which includes map object graphics data and map object label data; causing one or more portions of a map object (e.g. a road) to be rendered in the view of the display in accordance with the map object graphics data; and also causing a map object label (e.g. a name of the road) to be rendered in the view of the display, in accordance with the map object label data, on or along a portion of the map object between its vertice coordinates, such that a linear position of the map object label on or along the portion of the map object is different from its linear position in each of the other views of the map so that the map object label fits within the view in a continuous moving fashion from view to view. In a specific embodiment, the map object label is rendered by identifying the portion of the map object to be a longest portion of the one or more portions of the map object in the view; identifying a centerpoint of the portion identified to be the longest portion; and causing the map object label to be rendered relative to the centerpoint of the portion identified to be the longest portion.
