摘要: The present invention relates to electroactive polymers (152) that are pre-strained to improve conversion from electrical to mechanical energy. When a voltage is applied to electrodes (156) contacting a pre-strained polymer (152), the polymer (152) deflects. This deflection may be used to do mechanical work. The pre-strain improves the mechanical response of an electroactive polymer (152). The present invention also relates to actuators including an electroactive polymer and mechanical coupling to convert deflection of the polymer into mechanical work. The present invention further relates to compliant electrodes that conform to the shape of a polymer. The present invention provides methods for fabrication electromechanical devices including one or more electroactive polymers.

摘要: Disclosed generators includes one or more transducers that use electroactive polymer films to convert mechanical energy to electrical energy. The generators may include one or more transmission mechanisms that transfer a portion of an unused biological energy source, an unused environmental energy source or combinations of both to the one or more transducers located in the generators. The energy received by the transducers may be converted to electrical energy by the transducers in conjunction with conditioning electronics located within the generator. A heel-strike generator is disclosed that is integrated into the heel of footwear and is used to convert mechanical energy generated during human bipedal motion to electrical energy.

摘要: Combustion devices described herein comprise a compliant combustion chamber wall or segment. The compliant segment deforms during combustion in the combustion chamber. Some devices may include a compliant wall configured to stretch responsive to pressure generated by combustion of a fuel in the combustion chamber. A coupling portion translates deformation of the compliant segment or wall into mechanical output. One or more ports are configured to inlet an oxygen source and fuel into the combustion chamber and to outlet exhaust gases from the combustion chamber.

摘要: An electroluminescent device and a method for producing the electroluminescent device are described. The device is formed from a layered structure comprising a hole-injection electrode layer for injecting holes into an electroluminescent material, an electron-injection electrode layer for injecting electrons into an electroluminescent material and a dielectric layer interposed between the hole-injecting and electron-injecting electrode layers. A cavity extends through at least the dielectric layer and one of the electrode layers and has an interior cavity surface comprising a hole-injection electrode region, an electron-injection electrode region and a dielectric region. An electroluminescent coating material is applied to the interior cavity surface in order to electrically contact the hole-injection and electron-injection electrode regions of the interior cavity surface.
