Provided is a porous film obtained by melt-kneading a high-molecular-weight polyolefin having a weight-average molecular weight of not less than 5 x 10 5 , a thermoplastic resin having a weight-average molecular weight of not more than 2 x 10 4 and fine particles, molding the kneaded matter into a sheet, and then stretching the sheet. The porous film can be easily and simply prepared, and has a high piercing strength, and hence can be advantageously used as a separator for a battery, particularly for a lithium secondary battery.

A porous thermoplastic resin film capable of functioning well as a separator of a cell is provided. The porous film is constituted with a thermoplastic resin and a filler, wherein X R defined by the following formula: X R = 25 × T GUR × d 2 /Y is smaller than 5, where Y (µm), T GUR (sec/100 cm 3 ), and d (µm) represent the thickness, the gurley value, and the average pore diameter of said film, respectively. The porous film constructed as shown above can reduce the internal resistance of a cell when used as a separator of the cell.

A laminate film for wrapping comprises a layer (A) of an ethylene-α-olefin copolymer having a coefficient of variation of composition distribution (Cx) represented by the equation below of 0.40 or less and having an ethylene content of 50 mol% or more and at least one layer of a different kind; Cx = σ/SCB ave wherein σ is a standard deviation of composition distribution (1/1000C), and SCB ave is an average of the number of short chain branchings per 1000C (1/1000C). The production of the copolymer is described, and copolymers of ethylene or propylene and an α-olefin or of propylene and ethylene which are suitable as the different kind of layer. The film is safe and hygienic, has low odor and excellent in transparency, mechanical strength, softness, and low-temperature heat sealing properties and is therefore suitable to automatic wrapping, particularly stretch-wrapping.

Disclosed is a method for producing a laminated porous polyolefin film, the method comprising steps of:
providing a pair of tools for thermocompression bonding two resin films therebetween, laminating two films each comprising at least one layer made of a polyolefin resin composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a polyolefin resin having a melt index of 0.1 g/10 min or less and 80 to 300 parts by weight of a filler to form a laminated film by piling and thermocompression bonding the films between the thermocompressing portions of the tools, wherein the surface temperature of each thermocompressing portion is adjusted to a temperature higher than the melting point of the polyolefin resin by from 5 to 25°C during the lamination, and drawing the laminated film to form micropores therein, thereby yielding a porous film.
