The present invention relates to a method for treating at least one silicon carbide fiber. The method includes at least the following steps: a) placing at least one silicon carbide fiber, having an oxygen content of less than or equal to 1 atomic percent, in contact with an oxidant medium so as to chemically transform the surface of the fiber and form a surface silica layer, b) removing the silica layer that was formed by placing the fiber, obtained after implementing step a), in contact with an acid liquid medium comprising at least hydrofluoric acid, and c) depositing an interphase layer on the surface of the fiber obtained after implementing step b).
