The method includes measuring an adjacent band interference value indicating an amount of adjacent band interference in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) band associated with an LTE radio entity prior to switching the LTE radio entity to an active state from an inactive state, comparing the adjacent band interference value with a predetermined threshold value, and reporting in-device co-existence interference in the LTE band to an evolved Node B (eNB) according to an outcome of the comparing of the adjacent band interference value with the predetermined threshold value.

The method dynamically adjusts DRX settings based on network operator provided service or location of the UE and converged services supported by the network and so on. The UE indicates the network for adjusting DRX settings when DRX settings needs to be changed based on above parameters. Further, the wireless network provides the DRX settings to UE based on parameters. The method provides subscription information of the UE to access network. The method dynamically adjusts the DRX settings when the UE is in a Femtocell area or the UE associated with features like One Number. The UE can initiate a inter UE session transfer to the other UEs. The UE indicates the network that the sessions have been transferred. The network applies possible signaling optimizations to the UE.

A method and system for minimizing battery power consumption of user equipment (UE) during inter-frequency cell discovery in heterogeneous network is disclosed. UE receives background scan configuration for specified frequency from the network and performs the background scan for detecting inter-frequency cell. The UE detects an inter-frequency cell on the frequency indicated in the background scan configuration, during the inactive time of DRX cycle. Further, UE indicates the physical cell identity of the detected cell to the network. Then the UE activates the normal measurement gap provided previously or the network configures normal measurement gap to the UE if not provided previously. Further, UE performs Reference signal Received Power (RSRP) and Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ) measurements of the detected cell. Then the UE reports these measurements to the network when the measurement report event condition is satisfied and the network handovers the UE to the detected cell.

The apparatus includes Packet Data Units (PDUs) associated with one or more MTC devices are aggregated by a radio network controller. The aggregated PDUs associated with the one or more MTC devices are concatenated into an Iu PDU based on a Radio Access Bearer (RAB) identifier associated with the one or more MTC devices. The Iu PDU including the aggregated PDUs is transmitted to a core network across an Iu-Packet Switched (PS) interface that connects the radio network controller and the core network.

The present invention provides a method and system for bulk activation and deactivation of component carriers in a wireless communication environment. In one embodiment, spectrum farming is performed to determine availability of unused spectrum in other radio access technology (RAT) cells. If any spectrum is available, the available spectrum is used as one or more component carriers in a macro cell. Hence, one or more component carriers available in a cell of a wireless communication network is determined. The availability of the one or more component carriers in the cell is then communicated to a plurality of mobile stations via a system information block. Accordingly, each of the mobile stations are allowed to activate the one or more component carriers in the cell. Moreover, the mobile stations are scheduled on the cell associated with the activated component carriers.

An apparatus and method for estimating an absolute power level in a Multiple Users Reusing One Single time slot (MUROS) system are provided. The absolute value of power level of the MUROS user is received by the MUROS user from a Base Transceiver Station (BTS). The MUROS user also determines the mean value of its own signal strength. The absolute value of power level of the other user paired with the MUROS user is estimated using the received absolute value of power level of the MUROS user and the determined mean value of signal strength. The estimated absolute value of power level of the other user and the absolute value of power level of the MUROS user are further used by the MUROS user to estimate its channel. Information about the estimated channel of the MUROS user is provided to the BTS by the MUROS user and the BTS uses this information to allocate power to the two users which are paired for MUROS.

The method disclosed provides enhancing the access barring mechanism to accommodate application level barring between the User equipment (UE) and the network. The method disclosed individually restricts or permits access of network to every requesting application on the UE, based on granular category of the application and priority levels of the application within the granular category. The method disclosed also specifies handling of back-off timers; reject cause values and Access Point Name (APN) configuration by Access Stratum (AS) and Non Access Stratum (NAS) layer to support application level barring of UEs using the enhanced access barring mechanism. The enhanced access barring mechanism enables providing service to applications independent of other barred applications or priorities. The method disclosed provides a mechanism for access control for connected mode UEs.
