A method and an apparatus for installing a profile in a terminal (350) including a universal integrated circuit card, in particular an embedded UICC, are provided. More particularly, a method and an apparatus for remotely installing a profile in a terminal are provided. The terminal can remotely download the profile from a subscription manager data preparation (SM-DP, 320) or subscription manager secure routing (SM-SR, 340) entity. An authentication code is provided (303) via the mobile network operator, MNO, (330) for which the profile is valid to the user (300) of the terminal. The authentication code is provided by the terminal to the subscription manager (320, 340) with the request to download the profile (313). The authentication code is verified by the SM-DP or the SM-SR before providing the profile.The authentication code can be entered using a keyboard, camera (barcode) or NFC reader (tag).
