    摘要： In the continuous manufacture of absorbent articles (17) in the form of sanitary napkins, panty liners or incontinence protectors for women, the invention provides a method of providing said articles with protective layers (25, 26, 27). According to the invention, a web (5) of protective layer material whose width corresponds at least to the greatest width of the articles (17) in the machine direction (M) is provided with a sequence of pairs of cuts (8, 9) which are so spaced apart that when the web (5) of protective layer material is placed on a web (1, 3, 4) of article blanks the two cuts (8, 9) in each pair of cuts in the sequence of pairs of cuts will lie linearly between the points of connection of the flap (23, 24) whit the longitudianl edges of each article. The thus cut web (5) of protective layer material is placed on a web (1, 3, 4) or article blanks so that the two cuts in each pair of cuts in the sequence of pairs of cuts will extend linearly between the points where the flaps (23, 24) join the longitudinal edges of each article (17) provided with protective layers (25, 26, 27) are cut from the composite web (1, 3, 4, 5) comprised of the article blanks and the web of protective layer material. The invention also relates to an article on which a protective layer has been applied with the aid of the method.

The stiffening element (6) is in a plane state before use of the product and extends in the longitudinal direction of the product over the crotch portion (3) and at least some way in over the front portion (1). The stiffening element (6) has a width (M) at the transition between the crotch portion (3) and the front portion (1) which is adapted to the distance between the muscle tendons of the wearer on both sides of the crotch of the wearer in the groin of the latter and which is of the order of 15-45 mm, and is designed with sufficient stiffness in order to resist disadvantageous creasing thereof in the lateral direction. A hump-forming element (24) made of a resilient material is arranged under the stiffening element (6), which hump-forming element is arranged so as to bring about a raised portion (240) on the side which is intended to be fitted against the wearer, the raised portion (240) being arranged so as to come to lie directly in front of the genitals of the wearer after fitting of the product on the wearer.

According to the invention, the central absorbent body (4) tapers rearwardly from a section of greatest width located in the front portion (2) of the article to the end of the rear portion (3) of said article, wherein the side bodies (5, 6) extend rearwardly from a point on the tapering part of the central absorbent body to the rear end of the article.
