摘要: A drop generator for use in an ink jet printer is capable of stimulating long ink jet arrays at high operating frequencies. The drop generator comprises a substantially uniform cross section for a central portion and two end sections with different cross sections. The end sections have features to adjust a resonant frequency of the end sections to match that of the central portion. In particular, these features comprise cuts on a top of the drop generator. The drop generator utilizes multi-lobed radial bending modes for vibration of an array of orifices, and the vibrational modes are driven by at least two rows of transducers which extend substantially the length of the drop generator. The transducers are placed consistent with a lobe structure of an operational radial bending mode.

摘要: A coating applicator method is used to apply a coating substance to an ink jet printer substrate. The method comprises the steps of dissolving a coating substance in a carrier fluid to create a coating product. The coating product is applied as a controllable pattern of discrete droplets onto the substrate. This produces a uniform, controllable surface coating on the ink jet printer substrate, the surface coating typically being a liquid solution.

摘要: A detection technique comprises a plurality of closely spaced, continuous detection electrodes placed immediately below and along the length of a charge plate in an ink jet printing system. The detection electrodes typically comprise parallel conductors. A circuit is provided for monitoring the conductivity between the electrodes. The electrodes are electrically isolated from one another when properly placed on the catcher surface. If the conductivity, as measured by the circuit, rises above a predetermined threshold level it is an indication that some amount of unwanted ink is present at the location of the conductors. This signals improper print head operation requiring a print head shut-down and/or clean cycle.
