A rotary introducer (10) for introducing a trackable element and/or contaminant (12) onto a flow path of a food-transit system without adjusting a flow-rate. The introducer (10) comprises an inlet (26) and an outlet (32) which is communicable with a food-transit conduit (18); a rotatable driving member (14) having a first device-contact surface (72); and a rotatable drivable member (16) having a second device-contact surface (74). In a trackable-element receiving condition, the inlet (26) is open to receive a trackable element and/or contaminant (12) in the device cavity (56), and the outlet (32) is closed by at least one of the driving and drivable member (14, 16). However, in a trackable-element discharge condition, the outlet (32) is open with the second device-contact surface (74) being at the drivable-member stop position and the first device-contact surface (72) being urged towards the driving-member stop position such that a trackable-element discharge force is directed radially inwardly through the outlet (32) to discharge the trackable element and/or contaminant (12) from the device cavity (56), thus enabling the first device-contact surface (14) to continue to the driving-member stop position causing the outlet (32) to close. A food-transit system using the rotary introducer (10) and a method of introducing a trackable element and/or contaminant (12) into food-transit system without adjusting a flow-rate of foodstuffs therethrough are also provided.

A removable self-centring magnetically-clampable food-inspection pipe apparatus (12) comprising: a food-inspection pipe (14) with a through-bore having a tubular pipe body (16) through which the through-bore passes, and a first connector part (18) at each end of the pipe body 16 defining first seating surfaces (20); and complementary second connector parts (22) which each define second seating surfaces (24) and on which each first connector part (18) is respectively slidably demountably seatable, one of the first and/or second connector parts (22) having at least in part a magnetically-attractable material, and the other of the corresponding first and/or second connector parts (18, 22) having a plurality of magnetic elements (34) equiangularly spaced about a bore axis of the pipe body (16), poles of consecutive magnetic elements (34) being opposite to each other, so that, as the food-inspection pipe (14) is introduced laterally to the bore axis, the first and second connector parts (18, 22) slidably engage and self-centre the food-inspection pipe (14). A food-inspection device (10) is also provided in addition to a method of improving hygiene of a food-inspection device (10).
