摘要: A fuel injector (18) that contains no springs and is controlled by a valve assembly that has more than two modes of operation. The fuel injector includes a housing which has a supply port (36), a drain port (44) and a cylinder passage (38) that is in fluid communication with an intensifier (80). The intensifier moves between a first position and a second position within a fuel chamber (36). The fuel chamber is coupled to a fuel port. Movement of the intensifier into the second position pressurizes the furl within a fuel chamber (36). The pressurized fuel opens a needle valve (110) so that fuel is ejected through an aperture (76) of the housing. The cylinder passage is coupled to a first fluid control valve (32) and a second fluid control valve (34). Each control valve can be actuated between a closed position and an open position. When the first control valve is moved to the open position, the supply port is in fluid communication with the cylinder passage so that a fluid flows through the passage to push the intensifier (80) to the second position and eject fuel from the ejector. When the second control valve (34) is actuated to the open position the cylinder passage is coupled to the drain port (44). The intensifier is coupled to a supply line that provides fluid to move the intensifier back to the first position; the needle is also coupled to the return line (114) to move the needle back to a closed position.

摘要: The present invention is a fuel injection system having one or more fuel injectors (50) and an electronic control system therefore. The preferred fuel injector (50) has a double magnetic latching solenoid (24) three-way or four-way spool valve (120) that controls the flow of a working fluid that is used to control the discharge of fuel into the combustion chamber or intake manifold of an engine through the nozzle (72) of the injector (50). The control system provides actuating current pulses to each of the solenoids to actuate and latch the solenoids to effect initiation and termination of the injection. Disclosed are control systems that provide a snap action in one or both actuating directions of the valve.

摘要: A statically and dynamically pressure balanced fluid control valve (10). The valve (10) contains a spool (24) that is moved within an inner chamber (26) of a valve housing (28) by a pair of solenoids (34, 36). The ports are symmetrically located on each side of a center port (20), wherein the resultant fluid forces on the spool (24) are in opposite directions. The opposing forces create a net fluid force of approximately zero, so that the spool (24) is dynamically pressure balanced when the valve (10) is switched to a new position. The spool (24) also has an inner channel (40) and a pair of end openings (42) that are in fluid communication with the inner chamber (26) of the valve (10). When the spool (24) is pulled to a new position, the end openings (42) and inner channel (40) allow fluid within the inner chamber (26) to flow out of the space between the end of the spool (24) and the housing (28).

In the first position, the internal valve (20) provides fluid communication between the cylinder port (16) and the supply port (18). In the second position, the valve (20) provides fluid communication between the cylinder port (16) and the return port (14). In the neutral position, the valve (20) prevents fluid communication between the ports. The control valve (10) has a first actuator (36) and a second actuator (38) that are actuated by digital pulses to move the internal valve (20) between the first, second, and neutral positions.
