The present invention includes a composition comprising (a) at least one propylene polymer coupled by reaction with a coupling amount of poly(sulfonyl azide) sufficient to increase the melt strength of the propylene polymer before coupling at least 1.5 fold as compared with the resulting coupled propylene polymer; and (b) at least one ethylene polymer wherein the ethylene polymer is present in an amount sufficient to improve film mechanical properties of tear resistance in either the machine direction (MD) and cross direction (CD) as measured by the Elmendorf Tear method (ASTM D-1922) or dart impact strength as measured by the procedure of ASTM D-1709 or a modified method thereof in which the height from which the dart is dropped is decreased from 26' to 10.5' (0.66m to 0.27m) as compared with a film formed in the same manner using the coupled propylene polymer of (a) alone. Preferably, the propylene polymer is present in an amount of greater than 50 weight percent of the resulting composition and the ethylene polymer is present in an amount of from 5 to 49 weight percent. The invention also includes any blown film blown from a composition of the invention, particularly when blown on a high or low stalk extruder or coextruded as well as the process of blowing such a film. Further, the invention includes any article comprising a composition of the invention or comprising a film of the invention. Particular embodiments are those articles including an institutional liner, consumer liner, heavy duty shipping sack, produce bag, batch inclusion bag, pouch, grocery bag, merchandise bag, packaging, cereal liner, soft paper overwrap, multi-wall bag, lamination or combination thereof, including multiwall or multilayer configurations thereof. Further, the invention includes the use of a composition of the invention for making a blown film.

This invention relates to novel homopolymers important for applications where a high density is needed to ensure certain mechanical properties like abrasion resistance, indentation resistance, pressure resistance, topload resistance, modulus of elasticity, or morphology (for the chlorination of PE to CPE) and additional advantages such as melt processability. This invention also relates to blend compositions containing the novel homopolymer, the use of which allows the incorporation of more comonomer in the additional components of the blend (for the same overall density) resulting in increased tie molecule formation and improvement in properties such as ESCR, toughness and impact strength. The blend can be obtained by dry or melt mixing the already produced components, or through in-situ production by in parallel and/or in series arranged reactors. These resins can be used in applications such as films, blow molded, injection molded, and rotomolded articles, fibres, and cable and wire coatings and jacketings and, various forms of pipe.

Elastic ethylene polymers are disclosed which have processability similar to highly branched low density polyethylene (LDPE), but the strength and toughness of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE). The polymers have processing indices (PI's) less than or equal to 70 percent of those of a comparative linear ethylene polymer and a critical shear rate at onset of surface melt fracture of at least 50 percent greater than the critical shear rate at the onset of surface melt fracture of a traditional linear ethylene polymer at about the same I2, density and Mw/Mn. The novel polymers can also have from 0.01 to 3 long chain branches/1000 total carbons and have higher low/zero shear viscosity and lower high shear viscosity than comparative linear ethylene polymers. The novel polymers can also be characterized as having a melt flow ratio, I10/I2, ≥ 5.63, a molecular weight distribution, Mw/Mn, defined by the equation: Mw/Mn ≤ (I10/I2) - 4.63, a critical shear stress at onset of gross melt fracture greater than 4 x 106 dyne/cm2, and a single DSC melt peak between -30 °C and 150 °C.

This invention relates to cast films prepared from interpolymer compositions comprising: (A) a substantially linear ethylene/α-olefin interpolymer present in the composition in an amount of from 10 to 100 % by weight based on the combined weight of Components A and B; and (B) a heterogeneous interpolymer present in the composition in an amount of from 0 to 90 % by weight based on the combined weight of Components A and B; and wherein said interpolymer composition has an I10/I2 value of -1.2-1.3* log(I2). The interpolymer compositions are useful in cast stretch film manufacture with the resulting cast films having an excellent balance of strength and processability.

The present invention relates to a method for making a heat-resistant elastic article and a heat-resistant elastic article. The invention especially relates to a method of making elastic fibers and polymeric elastic fibers wherein the elastic fibers are capable of withstanding dyeing and heat-setting processes that typically are conducted at elevated temperatures (such as 110-230° C. and especially at greater than or equal to 130° C. for minutes). The inventive method comprises radiation crosslinking an article (or plurality of articles) under an inert or oxygen limited atmosphere (for example, in N2, argon, helium, carbon dioxide, xenon and/or a vacuum) wherein the article (or articles) comprises at least one amine stabilizer and preferably another optional stabilizer additive. More preferably, the radiation crosslinking is performed at a low temperature (-50 to 40° C.). The elastic article (or articles) comprises a homogeneously branched ethylene interpolymer (preferably a substantially linear ethylene interpolymer), a substantially hydrogenated block polymer, or a combination of the two. The heat-resistant elastic articles (especially fibers) are useful in various durable or repeated-use fabric applications such as, but not limited to, clothing, under-garments, and sports apparel. The heat-resistant elastic fibers can be conveniently formed into fabrics using well-known techniques such as, for example, by using co-knitting techniques with cotton, nylon, and/or polyester fibers.

Polymer mixtures are disclosed which comprise at least one homogeneously branched ethylene polymer (A) and at least one ethylene polymer (B) having a crystallinity which is at least 7 percent greater than the crystallinity of polymer (A) with certain provisos. A process for making a molded article using the disclosed polymer mixtures is disclosed as well as films, film layers, coatings and molded articles formed from those mixtures. These mixtures have several advantages over polymer compositions of the prior art, including improved properties at elevated temperatures such as improved softening point under load, improved hardness, improved toughness, improved 100 percent modulus of elasticity, improved compression set, improved ability to prevent oil bleed out at lower temperatures when the mixture contains oil and reduced injection molding cycle time. The mixtures retain their performance advantages even when substantial amounts of additives such as oil and filler are incorporated into the mixture. The mixtures may also be cross-linked after they are formed into the shape of an article to form vulcanized elastomeric products. The polymer mixtures have utility in a variety of applications.

The blend also comprises at least one optional impact modifier and at least one optional processing aid. The blend is useful in the preparation of fabricated articles such as adhesives, films, blow molded articles, and injection molded articles, and is characterized by improved high temperature serviceability.
