The present invention relates to a thermoplastic interpolymer product comprising an α-olefin interpolymerized with at least one vinyl or vinylidene aromatic monomer and/or at least one hindered aliphatic or cycloaliphatic vinyl or vinylidene aromatic monomer and, in at least one aspect, is characterized as having substantially synergistic thermal properties. The invention also relates to a process for manufacturing the interpolymer product wherein the process employs two or more single site or metallocene catalyst systems in at least one reaction environment and wherein at least two of the catalyst systems have (a) different monomer incorporation capabilities or reactivities and (b) the same or, optionally, different monomer sequencing and/or tacticity characteristics. With unique thermal property attributes, the interpolymer product is useful, for example, for impact, bitumen and asphalt modification, adhesives, dispersions or latexes and fabricated articles such as, but not limited to, foams, films, sheet, moldings, thermoforms, profiles and fibers.

The present invention is at least a two-component thermoplastic elastomeric composition comprising at least one block copolymer wherein the composition has essentially the same comparative elasticity, high temperature serviceability and hardness as the unmodified, undiluted (neat) block copolymer portion of the composition. The composition also shows enhanced thermal stability and processibility and is well suited for fabricating elastic moldings, films and fibers as well as for formulating with asphalts, adhesives and sealants. The novel thermoplastic elastomeric composition comprises (a) from about 50 to about 99 percent by weight of at least one block copolymer and (b) about 1 to about 50 percent by weight of at least one ethylene interpolymer having a density from about 0.855 g/cc to about 0.905 g/cc, wherein the ethylene interpolymer in the amount employed is a substantially inert extender of the block copolymer and the composition is further characterized as having:i. storage moduli throughout the range of -26° C. to 24° C. of less than about 3.5x109 dynes/cm2,ii. a ratio of storage modulus at -26° C. to storage modulus at 24° C. of less than about 4, andiii. storage moduli at -26° C. and 24° C. about 0.2 to about 3 times higher than the storage moduli at -26° C. and 24° C., respectively, of the neat block copolymer portion of the composition.

(1.2 cm /cm.day.MPa), wherein the polymer composition comprises at least one substantially random interpolymer (or a blend comprising at least one substantially random interpolymer and at least one other polymer) and from 0 to 80 percent by weight (based on the total weight of the composition) of at least one filler. The present invention also discloses sealing systems which include container closures such as bottle caps comprising these seals. The interpolymers or blends used to produce the seals of the present invention (as well as the novel seals themselves) exhibit a unique balance of properties including low oxygen permeability, low Shore A hardness and excellent tensile strain recovery.

The present invention relates to blend compositions comprising: (A) of from 1 to 99 weight percent based on the combined weights of Components A, B and C of at least one substantially random interpolymer; and wherein said interpolymer: (1) contains of from 0.5 to 65 mole percent of polymer units derived from: (a) at least one vinyl or vinylidene aromatic monomer, or (b) at least one hindered aliphatic vinyl or vinylidene monomer, or (c) a combination of at least one vinyl or vinylidene aromatic monomer and at least one hindered aliphatic vinyl or vinylidene monomer; (2) contains of from 35 to 99.5 mole percent of polymer units derived from at least one aliphatic α-olefin having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms; (3) has a molecular weight (Mn) greater than 1,000; (4) has a melt index (I2) of from 0.01 to 1,000; (5) has a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of from 1.5 to 20; and (B) of from 99 to 1 weight percent based on the combined weights of Components A, B and C of one or more vinyl halide homopolymer(s) or copolymer(s); and (C) of from 0 to 70 weight percent based on the combined weights of Components A, B and C of one or more plasticizers. The novel blend compositions provide materials with improved processing/property attributes over the unmodified polymers comprising the blends. The blend compositions can exhibit a unique balance of properties including enhanced modulus and barrier properties, improved tensile strength, radio frequency (rf) sealability, solvent bondability, thermal stability and heat resistance depending upon the selection of the individual blend components and their composition ratios. Additionally, the location and the breadth of the glass transition can be controlled by varying the blend compositions and plasticizer level. Surprisingly blends including a plasticizer show a single phase material from glass transition temperature data analysis.

The claimed compositions are useful in adhesives, such as are employed in various applications, such as in packaging and carton sealing, bookbinding, masking tape, clear office tape, labels, decals, bandages, decorative and protective sheets (such as shelf and drawer liners), floor tiles, sanitary napkin/incontinence device placement strips, sun control films, and the joining of gaskets to automobile windows.
