Abstract:
A spacer assembly (22) has first and second spacers (30a, 30b) respectively erected on the first and second surfaces of a substrate (24) integrally therewith. Each spacer has a shape tapering toward the extension end thereof. When forming the spacer assembly, first and second molding molds having an organic component−containing release agent applied thereto and having through holes are provided, and the molding molds are disposed in close contact with the first and second surfaces. Then, a spacer forming material is filled into the through holes in the molding molds and cured, thereby forming the first and second spacers on the substrate surface integrally therewith.
Abstract:
An image display unit comprising a first substrate (10) having a fluorescent surface (16), a second substrate (12) disposed opposite to the first substrate across a space and provided with a plurality of electron emission sources (18) for exciting the fluorescent surface, and a spacer assembly (22) provided between the first and second substrates, for supporting an atmospheric pressure load acting on the substrates. The spacer assembly has platy grids (24) and spacers (30a, 30b) erected on the grids. The spacers have their volume resistances gradually reduced respectively from the grid side toward the substrate sides. The above construction can prevent an electron beam from deviatiang from a trajectory, reduce a deterioration in color purity, and ensure a discharge withstand voltage between the first and second substrates to keep an anode voltage at a high level and improvae the luminance of a display image.
Abstract:
A plate-like grid (24) where beam passage holes (26) are formed and a plate-like forming die (36a) are provided. The forming die has spacer forming holes (40a) and has hole forming portions (56a) that are located around the individual spacer forming holes so as to define the spacer forming holes and are formed of an ultraviolet ray transmission material. The forming die is brought into close contact with a surface of the grid to form an assemble body comprising the forming die and the grid. Either before or after the assemble body is formed, a spacer forming material (46) with ultraviolet curing characteristics is filled in each of the spacer forming holes of the forming die. Ultraviolet rays are irradiated, directly or by transmitting them through the hole forming portions, to the spacer forming material in order to cure the space forming material. After that, the forming die is separated from the grid with the cured spacer forming material left on the grid.
