Abstract:
A noninvasive method for measuring dandruff in a subject comprising collecting an epithelial cell /skin cell sample from the subject; detecting a level of an antimicrobial peptide biomarkers being human beta-defensin-2 (hBD-2 in the epithelial cell sample/skin cell sample; diagnosing the subject as having dandruff based on the level of human beta-defensin-2 (hBD-2) biomarker and determining the amount of the human beta-defensin-2 (hBD-2) biomarker in the epithelial cells as compared to a normal population. Further, a noninvasive method for evaluating the efficacy of products for dandruff.
Abstract:
A method to measure heat damage of keratin fibers comprising eluting a peptide from a hair sample with an aqueous solution; extracting the peptide using a suitable solvent sample; analyzing the peptide samples with MALDI-MS; resulting in peptide results; identifying presence of a marker peptide and identifying the m/z ratio for the peptide.
Abstract:
Novel textile finishing compositions for finishing textile articles are provided via the present invention. The textile finishing compositions disclosed herein comprise a cross-linking agent and a catalytic amount of an esterification agent. The cross-linking agents employed herein are selected from a number of phosphorous containing materials derived from maleic acid. Also provided via the present invention are methods for applying the aforementioned finishing compositions to textile articles.
