The present invention relates to a novel fibrous composition for paper or card production, which contains an oxidized wastepaper stuff and/or an oxidized mechanical stuff into which 1 to 500 mmol of carboxyl groups per kg and 1 to 200 mmol of aldehyde groups per kg were introduced by oxidation. The invention also relates to paper and card based on such a fibrous composition and also to a process for producing such a paper or card. The invention also relates to the use of oxidized wastepaper stuff and/or oxidized mechanical stuff to improve the retention and drainage properties of a stuff suitable for the production of paper or card. The invention further relates to the use of oxidized wastepaper stuff and/or oxidized mechanical stuff to improve, i.e. enhance, the dry strength of paper and card.

The invention relates to the use of an enzyme preparation which catalyzes the degradation of formaldehyde for reducing the formaldehyde content in a formaldehyde-containing formulation. In a preferred embodiment, the enzyme preparation contains a formaldehyde dismutase from a Pseudomonas putida strain. Further, the invention refers to a process for reducing the formal dehyde content in cross-linking agents for textile finishing or in polymer dispersions used, e.g. in construction chemistry. Further the invention relates to the use of an enzyme preparation which catalyzes the degradation of aldehydes for reducing the formaldehyde content in an aldehyde-containing formulation. Furthermore, the invention relates to a novel variant of the formaldehyde dismutase from Pseudomonas putida.

The invention relates to a method for producing composite fiber materials by using at least one hydrolytic protein mixture and at least one polyamine- or polyimine-containing binder or any mixture of said binders for producing the composite fiber materials. The invention further relates to the use of at least one hydrolytic protein mixture and at least one polyamine- or polyimine-containing binder or any mixture of said binders alone or combined with at least one other binder or at least one auxiliary agent or at least one other binder and at least one auxiliary agent for producing composite fiber materials. The invention also relates to composite fiber materials that can be obtained by way of a method wherein at least one hydrolytic protein mixture and at least one polyamine binder or at least one polyimine binder or at least one polyamine-containing or polyimine-containing binder or any mixture of said binders is used for producing the composite fiber materials.
