A slackless drawbar (10) comprising a female member (20) with one end (12) engaging an end of a car body center sill (16) and another end (30) extends outwardly from the center sill end (14). A cavity (18) formed in such other end (30) defined by inner surfaces (22) of the back wall (24), top wall (28) and pair of side walls (34) and open at a bottom (36) and outer end (38) thereof. Openings (40,42) are formed through each side wall (34). A male member (50) includes a first end (48) movably disposed in such cavity (18) and a second end. An aperture (56) is formed through such male member (50) first end (48). A portion of a spherical shaped member (58) is disposed in such aperture (56). A pair of shaft members (60) extend from outer surfaces (62) of such spherical member (58). A portion of each shaft member (60) is disposed in respective side wall openings (40,42). Each shaft member (60) has a flat surface (64) formed thereon. A race (66) having a portion thereof disposed in such aperture (56) and secured to such male member (50). The race inner surface (68) is disposed around the spherical member (58). A pair of wedges (80), a surface (74) of one wedge (82) engages one of such shaft members (60) flat surfaces (64) and another surface (76) of such one wedge (82) engages a flat vertical surface (78) formed on one side wall (34) adjacent a portion of such first opening (40) and a surface of the other wedge engages another of such flat surfaces formed on such shaft members (60) and another surface of such another wedge engages a flat vertical surface formed on a second side wall (34) adjacent a portion of such second opening (42). A securing device secures such second end of such male member to a second end of another male member.
