A female connection member (10) for use in a slackless drawbar assembly (20) is engaging one end of a railway car. A cavity (14) is formed in an outer end of such female member (10). First and second openings (30,36) are formed through respective ones of a pair of side wall portions (26,28) of such cavity (14). Such cavity is adapted to receive a portion of a first end of a male connection member (40) therein. An aperture (44) is formed through such first end of the male member (40) to receive a portion of a ball member (46) therein. A pair of shaft members (48,50) extends from the outer surfaces of such ball member (46). A portion of one of the pair of shafts is adapted to be disposed in the first opening (30) and a portion of another one is adapted to be disposed in the second opening (36). Such pair of shafts have opposed flat surface portions (52,54). A race assembly (56) is disposed in such aperture and secured to the male member. An inner surface of such race (56) surrounds such ball (46). Respective ones of a pair of wedges (70) engage respective flat surfaces (52,54) on such pair of shaft members (48,50).

A suspension system for suspending a truck mounted brake assembly (20) within a railway vehicle truck arrangement (10) is provided. The suspension system comprises a first means (33;52;54) pivotally connected at a first end (34) with a predetermined portion of the railway vehicle truck arrangement (20) and pivotally connected at a second end (35) with a predetermined portion of the truck mounted brake assembly (20) for suspending a pair of brake beams (22,24) in the railway vehicle truck arrangement (10). The carrier plate assembly includes a carrier plate (2) having a top surface and a bottom surface. A crushable support member (7) has a bottom surface thereof engageable with at least a portion of the top surface of such carrier plate (2). There is an aperture formed through the crushable support member (7) and an anchoring mechanism is engageable with the carrier plate (2) and extends through such aperture formed in the crushable support member (7) for securing a locking wedge member (1) to the carrier plate (2) in such slackless drawbar assembly (6). The anchoring means (8) including at least a threaded portion (18) for at least one of receiving a nut (10) thereon and for threadedly engaging a threaded aperture formed in the locking wedge member (1) to enable tightening of such locking wedge member (1) to the carrier plate (2).
