A vehicle anti-theft device in the form of a vehicle steering wheel lock (10) comprising extendable and retractable members (14,16) having hooks that are on for engaging diametrically opposed portions of a steering wheel (30) to mount the anti-theft device on the steering wheel. It is provided with a motor operated lock mechanism (12) remotely controlled by a personal identification encoder. The lock mechanism (12) also includes a key operated portion (58), and the lock mechanism is operable either through the use of a key or through the use of the remotely controlled encoder.

Die Erfindung betrifft eine elektronische Alarmvorrichtung (10), insbesondere für Fahrzeuge (12), die Ultraschallgeräusche (14) erzeugt, um Tiere (3) davon abzuhalten, in die Fahrbahn des Fahrzeugs zu laufen. Die Vorrichtung besteht im wesentlichen aus einem einfachen Treiber- oder Ansteuerungsmechanismus (20) zum Erzeugen von elektrischen Impulsen (83) mit Rechteckwellenform und konstanter Amplitude. Der Treiber (20) erzeugt die Rechteckwellen mit periodisch ansteigenden und abfallenden Frequenzen. Die Rechteckwellen werden von einem Koppeltransformator (31) in elektrische Sinuswellen (100) mit großen Spitze-Spitze-Spannungen umgesetzt und einem piezo-elektrischen Wandler (36) zugeleitet, der diese in Ultraschallgeräusche umsetzt, die abwechselnd ansteigende und abfallende Frequenzen haben, wodurch ein Heulton ähnlich einer Sirene erzeugt wird. Dabei besteht für den Wandler (36) keine Überhitzungsgefahr oder Gefahr vorzeitigen Ausfalls. Der Ultraschallheulton verwirrt das Tier und verhindert, daß es in die Fahrbahn des Fahrzeugs läuft. Dabei wird das Tier weder verletzt noch sein Gehör beeinträchtigt.

A vehicle control unit (10) mounted onto the motor vehicle, has a first and second condition with means for allowing operation of the motor vehicle when the control unit is in the first condition and means for inhibiting operation of the motor vehicle when said control unit is in the second condition and means for shifting the control unit into the second condition at a time subsequent to removal of the identification device (T) from the vicinity of the motor vehicle.
