The metal strip shaping device (36) is used to shape the metal strips (38) unwound by the unwinding device (44) into a metal tube with overlapping longitudinal edges, which are welded in a welding station (32) provided in the extruder station (12) to form the metal tube. The metal tube is adhesive coated with a plastic lining and a plastic coating in the extruder station (12). The composite tube thus manufactured is then cooled to ambient temperature in the cooling device (50).

The molding cheek halves (12) consist of a material of a relatively small specific weight, having a thermal expansion coefficient (αB), which is high in comparison with the thermal expansion coefficient (αA) of the material for the supporting members (34) and the guiding and sliding elements (56). Nonetheless, in order to ensure a tight contact of the molding cheek halves (12), they exhibit a longitudinal extent (B) in the direction of the molding segment, which at the operational temperature (T) of the molding cheek halves (12) is as great as that of the supporting members (34) and that of the guiding and sliding elements (56).
