The illuminated glove has an outside layer, an inside liner and a fibre-optic arrangement (22,24) mounted there between. This fibre-optic arrangement comprises fibre-optic ribbons (28) extending along the fingers of the glove under the outside layer. Portion of these ribbons are visible through openings in the outside layer. A light source (22) is mounted at the base of the thumb. A power source (50) including a battery and a pressure sensitive switch (58) are mounted in the cuff (52) of the glove. A plurality of optical fibres extend loosely over the back-of-the-hand portion and the hand-knuckle region of the glove between the light source and the fibre-optic ribbons. A slack or loose bend (60) is provided in the plurality of optical fibres for reducing hand stiffness and fibre tension when the fingers of the glove are flexed. Preferably, the slack or the loose bend is an offset between and relative to the light source and the fingers.

This invention relates to a pedal cyclist indicator (30) which comprises an extension portion (31) having at one end a pressure toggle switch (37) and an elasticated loop (36) through which the first finger (19) of a cyclist is inserted. The other end joins at roughly the midpoint of a major portion (32) to be fixed around the wrist of the cyclist. Two amber light emitting diodes (LEDs) (34g and 34h) are located on the extension portion (31) and six are located in a generally uniformly spaced manner across the major portion (32). When a cyclist wishes to indicate a turning maneouver, they extend their arm whilst moving their thumb (17) to press and close the switch (37) to complete an electrical connection of the LEDs (34a to 34h) to batteries via a flashing unit. Thus, a selectively manually operable flashing pedal cyclist indicator is provided.

An integral battery, light and light switch assembly can be removably fitted within a light-transmitting pocket on an article of clothing, such as a glove. Alternatively, the assembly can be mounted to virtually any surface with an adhesive or hook and loop fastener. In one application, the assembly can be attached to fishing tackle to attract fish. The assembly is particularly useful for nighttime use by those in the vicinity of traffic, including police, fire and ambulance workers as well as runners and cyclists. The assembly can also be used to mark a trail or identify a location in the dark. Infrared lighting can be used for tactical operations.
