摘要: A medical device system for implantation in a hip joint for providing at least one artificial hip joint surface for a patient, the medical device system comprising an artificial caput femur surface (45); or an artificial acetabulum surface (65) being at least partly bowl-shaped. The system has a largest cross-sectional distance being variable such that the medical device system can be inserted through a hole (18) in the pelvic bone (9), from the abdominal side of the pelvic bone, the hole having a diameter smaller than said largest cross-sectional distance. Further the artificial acetabulum surface (65) comprises at least two parts (45', 45", 46, 53a, 53b, 54b, 56, 63, 64a,) which are adapted to be interconnected to form an interconnected medical device when in use.

摘要: An implant comprises a unitary body including an intramedullary portion connected to an extramedullary portion. The unitary body is configured to attach a first bone section to a second bone section. The intramedullary portion has a first longitudinal axis, and is configured for insertion into the first bone section. The intramedullary portion includes at least one first fastener aperture having an aperture axis oriented obliquely relative to the first longitudinal axis. The extramedullary portion is configured to abut a surface of the second bone section and includes at least one second fastener aperture disposed to transversely receive a bone fastener inserted in the second bone section. The extramedullary portion has a second longitudinal axis offset from, the first longitudinal axis.

摘要: The present invention relates to an orthopaedic implant, such as a bone plate, for the fixation of bone where the implant also has at least one microchip and at least one sensor connected to the microchip. The sensor or sensors are configured to receive physical stimulus from a portion of the implant or the patient's tissue such as temperature, pressure, and strain. The information received from the sensor or sensors is gathered by the microchip and transmitted to a receiver, such as a personal computer, outside the patient. This information enables doctors to diagnose the useful life of the implant, the load sharing of the bone plate, and possible complications typically associated with orthopaedic implants such as infection, fracture non-union, and fatigue. The implant may also have one or more electrodes located on its surface which emit an electric current to stimulate healing of the broken or fractured bone.

摘要: A universal sterile packaging assembly for an orthopedic device includes an outer blister having a first recessed central region and an inner blister having a second recessed central region. The second recessed central region includes a protrusion configured for securement of a medical part thereto. The inner blister is sized to fit within the first recessed central region. The assembly also includes a first lid securable to the inner blister and a second lid securable to the outer blister so as to enclose the inner blister within the outer blister.

摘要: There is disclosed a threaded tissue tack (10,60) for use in approximating and securing a pair of tissue sections together. The threaded tissue tack has a central body portion (12,62) and first (14,64) and second (16,68) screws extending from opposite ends of the central body portion. The first screw includes a left-hand thread (18,66) and the second includes a right-hand thread (20,70). Engagement structure (22,72) is provided on the central body portion to rotate the threaded tissue tack about its longitudinal axis and into the pair of tissue sections. There is also disclosed a tack driver (40,90) for rotating the threaded tissue tack into the tissue. Guards (24,26,74,76) are provided intermediate first and second ends of the central body portion and the first and second screws to protect surrounding tissue from the tack driver.

When the bottom surface is seated complementarily against the surface contour, the first holes may point into an interior of the bone and into a volume occupied by the implant in the interior when the implant is positioned at a target site and radially expanded to form a mesh cage.
