There is provided a sanitary article for human use or for use for pets and domestic animals. The sanitary article is easily prepared by using a deodorant composition comprising plant extracts. The above deodorant composition comprises : one or a plurality of extracts chosen from the group consisting of the extracts of rosemary plants, sunflower seeds, raw coffee grains, grape rinds, grape seeds, apple, carrot leaves and tea leaves ; and an enzyme capable of oxidizing at least one phenol-based compound, such as one extracted from burdock plants. The deodorant composition is then mixed with a water-absorbent polymer contained in the sanitary article.

A new controlled release vehicle which acts by breakdown of the entrapping material upon hydration has been developed. The preferred release vehicle is made of a carboxylated cellulose, e.g., carboxymethylcellulose, which is treated with a cross-linking agent such as aluminum ions and, preferably, a hydrophobicity agent such as acetic acid. The vehicle is broken down by a release agent, e.g., cellulase, which may be coated on the vehicle together with a coating agent, e.g., hydroxypropylcellulose. The vehicle is dried, entrapping the molecule to be entrapped, e.g., an enzyme, and hydration activates the cellulase which breaks down the carboxymethylcellulose, releasing the entrapped molecule.

La présente invention concerne des procédés de production de matériau absorbant qui présentent une excellente absorption de liquide salin et autres liquides et qui est également biodégradable. Les procédés de l'invention consistent à former une matière particulaire qui peut être stockée à l'état sec et réhydratée à tout moment. La matière particulaire peut être utilisée pour remplacer les superabsorbants à base de polyacrylate utilisés actuellement. Le matériau de base utilisé dans les procédés de l'invention est un matériau à base de cellulose carboxylé tel que la carboxyméthylcellulose, de préférence une carboxyméthylcellulose ayant un degré de substitution (DS) de 0,5 ou davantage.
