In some embodiments, an eye treatment device is disclosed, which includes a scleral shield positionable proximate an inner surface of an eyelid, the scleral shield being made of, or coated with, an energy-absorbing material activated by a light energy, and an energy transducer positionable outside of the eyelid, the energy transducer configured to provide light energy at one or more wavelengths, including a first wavelength selected to heat the energy-absorbing material. Wherein, when the eyelid is positioned between the energy transducer and the scleral shield, the light energy from the energy transducer and the heated energy-absorbing material of the scleral shield conductively heats a target tissue region sufficiently to melt meibum within meibomian glands located within or adjacent to the target tissue region.

The actuator includes a piezoelectric element, electrodes in electrical communication with an electrical source and the piezoelectric element to drive the piezoelectric element, a polymeric protective layer encapsulating the piezoelectric element and part of the electrodes, and an enclosure attached to the protective layer. The actuator includes a space between the protective layer and the enclosure allowing desired modes of vibration to develop across a surface of the protective layer that encapsulated the piezoelectric element. The actuator can include a skin attachment article that has a mounting pad for attaching to the skin of the subject and for attaching the actuator. The skin attachment article has a cover that overlies the actuator and the mounting pad when the article is attached to the skin of the subject.

A system for obtaining and analyzing data for overall joint motion from a plurality of joints of a subject experiencing a movement disorder involves a plurality of kinematic sensors configured to be placed on a body of a subject experiencing a movement disorder proximal a plurality of joints of the subject. The kinematic sensors are selected to measure overall joint motion with sufficient degrees of freedom for individual joints so that data collected by the sensors can be deconstructed into multiple degrees of freedom for individual joints and analyzed to provide amplitude of the movements caused by the movement disorder and/or relative contributions from and/or directional bias for each muscle group that may be implicated in the movement of each joint. Such a system permits methods for determining a treatment regimen for treating the movement disorder, whereby the treatment regimen is based on the amplitude of the movements and/or the relative contribution and/or directional bias of each muscle group to the movements caused by the movement disorder.
