The material is fed to the device for cleaning of fine metallurgical waste from the feeding tank (1), by means of a feeding mechanism (2) and is transported to initial separator (3), into which air is blown with a fan (4). The most dusty fractions hovering in the initial separator (3) are directed to the collector (6). However, the largest fractions of metallurgical waste fall to the bottom part, and they are removed with a cascade pipeline (7) directed upwards to the cascade separator (8). Lighter fractions accumulated in the cascade separator (8), are directed to the collector (6), and then to the next cascade separator (15), from where lighter and finer fractions of metallurgical waste are directed to expanded cascade separator (16), and the lightest fraction of waste are then directed to the cyclone dust collector (18).

In order to provide a classifier which can be inserted in a grinding circuit and whose grit discharge quantity recirculated to the mill is to be kept constant within certain limits without having to use a grit bunker arranged between the classifier and the mill, it is proposed according to the invention to design the classifier space above the coarse-material discharge opening (16) as an intermediate bunker for the classifier coarse material and to equip said bunker with level measurement means (19), and to control the filling level (20) between a bottom and a top limit value, and to arrange a controllable mechanical conveying member (22), which builds up the classifier coarse material (12) in the intermediate bunker, at the coarse-material discharge opening (16) of the classifier.

In an air separation process for wood fibres which contain particles of impurities, the fibres are added together with a vertical, descending stream of auxiliary gas (13) to a substantially irrotational stream of carrier gas (18) slanted relative to the vertical, descending stream. The particles of impurities are loosened from the fibres and eliminated, whereas the cleaned wood fibres are separated from the streams of auxiliary and carrier gas.

An apparatus for separating bird seed from lighter waste material such as chaff and feathers wherein a flow of air is drawn through the apparatus and the mixture is introduced into the air flow which carries away the lighter chaff and feathers, but the heavier seed and whole grain is not and is therefore separated. The air flow carrying the lighter material is caused to pass round a sharp corner defined by the edge of a partition plate (24) contained in a separation chamber. The lighter material does not pass round the sharp corner, and the lighter material drops into a collection drawer. The mixture is fed into the top of a downwardly directed feed chute (32) and from the bottom of the feed chute the mixture passes into the air flow in the upwardly extending lift channel (34), the bottom of which is open to allow air to be drawn in and the heavier material to drop out.

A more uniform web is formed by the system by loading the forming bell more symmetrically. The system includes a fluidizing chamber (36) and a conduit (42) for introducing particulate matter into the chamber and directing it against fluid entering the chamber from another location (36). A Coanda nozzle (18) communicates with the chamber and entrains the particulate matter and fluid in the fluidizing chamber and transports same in a direction differing from the original direction of movement of the particulate matter and fluid.
