A steel pipe according to the present invention has a waveform shape formed on an outer diameter thereof by a pipe expansion process. The value "a/w" is 0.038% or smaller, where "a" and "w" denote the amplitude and the wavelength of the waveform shape, respectively. It is desirable to arrange the value "w/»" indicating a ratio of the wavelength "w" of the waveform shape to a Timoshenko's buckling wavelength "»" so as to be larger than 0.8. As a result, it is possible to provide a steel pipe of which deformability is improvable, while reducing labor and time required by the pipe expansion process.

A method for manufacturing a pipe with different diameters along a longitudinal direction that has a small diameter portion, a large diameter portion, and a diameter-changing portion provided between the small diameter portion and the large diameter portion and is formed by press forming a blank made of a metal sheet. The method includes a step of press forming the blank with a U-shape forming die into a U-shaped formed part and press forming the U-shaped formed part with an O-shape forming die set into a circular cross-section formed part. A length of a vertical wall of the U-shape forming die is longer than a length of a vertical wall portion of the U-shaped formed part. In the O-shape forming die set, a die mating line is inclined downwardly, and a ratio t/D of a sheet thickness t of the blank to a diameter D, which represents a diameter of a portion of the O-shape forming die set corresponding to the small diameter portion and a diameter of a portion of the O-shape forming die set corresponding to the large diameter portion, is 0.010 ‰¤ t/D ‰¤ 0.080. A circumferential compressive strain given by the following expression (1) is equal to or more than 0.5%: Circumferential compressive strain = (blank width in sheet width direction that becomes pipe circumferential direction - perimeter of die set)/perimeter of die set x 100(%).

A method is used to manufacture a drawn tube having a hollow low interior for housing an axle shaft. The method includes the steps of placing a billet into a first die assembly and pressing the billet into the first die to producing a pre-formed billet. The method also includes the steps of moving the pre-formed billet from the first die assembly to a second die assembly and pressing the pre-formed billet into the second die assembly to produce an extruded tube. The method further includes the steps of moving the extruded tube from the second die assembly to a third die assembly and pressing the extruded tube into the third die assembly to further elongate the extruded tube and decrease the thickness of the wall of the extruded tube to of from about 3 to about 18 millimeters to produce the drawn tube having the yield strength of at least 750 MPa.

The invention relates to a supporting core (1) for using in a device for shaping plates to form a structured hollow profiled element comprising a plurality of interconnected supporting members (2), and to a method for producing structured hollow profiled elements from a plate. The aim of the invention is to provide a supporting core (1) for using in the production of structured hollow profiled elements, which ensures an all-over support of the plate, and thereby enables the production of hollow profiled elements with a variable cross-section or a curved form. To this end, when the individual supporting members (2) are pushed together, at least part of the surface thereof forms the inner contour of the hollow profiled element to be produced and they are interconnected by means of coupling elements (4). The coupling elements (4) allow the supporting members to be separated, said supporting members (2) being interconnected in an articulated manner in the separated position thereof.
