A second corrugated fiberboard layer (11) and a first corrugated fiberboard layer (12) are guided so as to run between the hot plates (5, 2), while a third corrugated fiberboard layer (10) is guided so as to run above the second arcuate hot plate (5), through the second arcuate hot plate (5). The second arcuate hot plate (5) is lowered by the cylinder unit (6) so as to be in contact with the second corrugated fiberboard layer (11).

The preheater (28) is positioned upstream from the corrugating nip and includes an arcuate surface (26) facing the web. A plurality of primary channels (82) are disposed internally within the preheater (28) in thermal communication with the arcuate surface (26). High pressure steam is supplied to the primary channels (82) for heating the arcuate surface. A plurality of outlet ports (98) extend within the preheater (28) and are in fluid communication with the heated arcuate surface (26). Low pressure steam is released through the plurality of outlet ports (98) thereby producing a steam film between the heated arcuate surface (26) and the paperboard web.

    摘要: An apparatus and related method for forming a double face paperboard web (24) are disclosed. The apparatus of the present invention includes a heating section (12) that includes at least one heating plate (16) having an upper surface facing a paperboard web and heated by a plurality of primary channels (38) supplied with steam. Steam supplied to secondary channels (50) exits through outlet ports (54) thereby producing a steam film between the upper surface of the heating plate and the lower surface of the paperboard web. The steam film substantially reduces frictional forces opposing movement of the web while also dramatically increasing the heat transfer to the paperboard web (24) and accelerating the gelatinization of the glue therein. A plurality of fluid ports are formed within a weight blanket for producing a steam film (60) between the weight blanket and the web for, again, reducing frictional contact with the web while improving heat transfer thereto.
