摘要: Vehicle seat belt apparatus (10) includes an electric-type pretensioner that includes a motor (23) for rotationally driving a belt reel (22) to take up a belt. The apparatus also includes: a take-up position detection section (25) for detecting a take-up position of the reel; a traveling condition determination section (62) for determining that a traveling condition of the vehicle has varied to a predetermined condition; and a control section (64) for controlling power supply to the motor, on the basis of a signal output from the determination section, to thereby control a driving amount of the motor but also for controlling the reel, in accordance with a detection signal output by the take-up position detection section, so that the reel is kept at a predetermined take-up position, to thereby hold a vehicle occupant in a seat with the belt.

摘要: A safety arrangement (1) to provide protection for an occupant (2) in a motor vehicle includes a seat-belt (4) provided with a measuring device (8) to measure energy absorbed by the seat-belt. The measuring device may determine the length of safety-belt paid-out after a retractor (5) locks, the belt being paid-out against a force provided by a force-limiter (6). The energy absorbed is calculated and is used to control the vents of a ventable air-bag (15). The air-bag is vented if a substantial part of the energy of the occupant (2) is absorbed by the seat-belt, but is not vented if a large proportion of the energy has not been absorbed by the seat-belt.

The fluidic torque conversion of this invention can be variably controlled through the use of an electro/mechanical flow control device. This invention is adapted to be responsive to the vehicles interior safety devices, including front air bags, side air bags, seat back pivots, head rests, collapsible steering wheel, and positioning of the dash board and/or vehicle instrumentation. This invention is a re-usable system. This invention can be applied to any rotational, pivotal or telescoping safety mechanism or device and by using hydro load limiting and energy absorbing management contributes to reduced occupant chest, back, neck or leg injuries as a result of a vehicle impact event.

The system provides out-of-position warnings, and is responsive to vehicle acceleration information from a crash discrimination system (22) and/or an object detecting radar system (26) to control tensioning of the seat belt. The system further provides for earlier seat belt tensioning activation by utilizing a pyrotechnic pretensioner (32) having a replaceable pyrotechnic cartridge (38).
