A steerable truck (300) for railroad cars is provided for controlled and uniform yawing of the axles (327, 328) of the truck (300), by providing a yawing response which is linear substantially throughout the range of movement of the axles (327, 328). Pivotably supported pedestals (333, 334) equalize load distribution, while an improved axle bearing construction accomodates pivoting of at least one axle end. A damping apparatus provides stiffness in the steering response so as to reduce hunting.

The invention relates to a bogie (1) for rail vehicles having a divided frame which is composed of two frame elements (2, 3), wherein each frame element (2, 3) is formed from a transverse carrier (4) and a longitudinal carrier (5) which are arranged with respect to one another in a T-shape, and the frame elements (2, 3) are rotationally connected to one another by means of two frame joints (6) so as to permit torsion of the frame elements (2, 3) with respect to one another transversely in relation to the direction of travel. Each frame joint (6) connects a free transverse carrier end (7) of a frame element (2, 3) to a longitudinal carrier suspension means (8) of the other frame element (2, 3) and is embodied as a ball-and-socket joint. It comprises a ball-segment-shaped internal ring (9) and an external ring (10) which corresponds thereto, wherein: the internal ring (9) has a spherical convex surface which is bounded by two small circles, the centre points of which are at the same distance from the centre point of the ball, wherein the internal ring (9) is designed such that it can be clamped to the longitudinal carrier suspension means (8), the external ring (10) has a hollow-ball-shaped concave surface which corresponds to the internal ring (9), and said external ring (10) is designed such that it can be connected to the free transverse carrier end (7), and the spherical convex surface of the internal ring (9) and the corresponding hollow-ball-shaped concave surface of the external ring (10) are embodied as surfaces which slide in relation to one another.

A railway vehicle truck assembly (10) comprises wheel sets (12) having longitudinally spaced, transversely extending axles (18), and wheels (16) mounted to the axles (18); transversely spaced longitudinally extending truck frames (22, 24) mounted to the axles (18); and a transversely extending bolster (34) mounted to the truck frames (22, 24). The bolster (34) has a center bowl (36) and opposed, elongated bolster arms (38, 40) extending from the center bowl (36). An underslung equalizer beam (50) is located below the axles (18) and mounted to the axle boxes (35). Brake beam guides (54) are located in the equalizer spring seats (60) which are located on the underslung equalizer beam (50). The equalizer beam (50) is hot-box detector compatible so as not to interfere with the axle bearing detection scanners located alongside the railroad track.
