An aspect of the present disclosure relates to a steering system having first and second steering circuits in fluid communication with a fluid actuator wherein the steering circuits are disposed in parallel to each other. The second steering circuit includes a proportional valve having a load-sense feature in selective fluid communication with a load-sense connection and the first steering circuit. The load-sense feature is open to the first steering circuit when the proportional valve is in a neutral position and closed to the first steering circuit when the proportional valve is moved to a first or second steering position. When the proportional valve is actuated from the neutral position to the first or second steering position the movement of the proportional valve closes the load sense feature from the first steering circuit and operates to deactivate the first steering circuit.

The invention relates to a hydraulic steering system for a vehicle, especially for a mobile working machine. The inventive steering system has a steering unit (12) which is controlled by a first steering mechanism (11), said first steering mechanism being configured in the form of a steering wheel (11), and which has a first fluid connection (29) and a second fluid connection (30). The first fluid connection is connected to a steering motor (14, 14') pressure chamber (35, 36') which is subjected to pressure for a steer angle to the left. The second fluid connection is connected to a steering motor (14, 14') pressure chamber (36, 35') which is subjected to pressure for a steer angle to the right. The steering system also has a control valve (13) which is controlled by a second steering mechanism (55). Said second steering mechanism is configured in the form of a joystick (55) and also has fluid connections (143, 144) connected to the pressure chambers (35, 36', 36, 35') of the steering motor (14, 14'). The invention aims to provide a simple means of ensuring that a steering action with the first steering mechanism (11) takes priority over a steering action with the second steering mechanism (33). To this end, the control valve (13) can only be actuated when the steering unit (12) is in the neutral position.

The second input means includes an electromagnetic actuator (65) to actuate the second valve means in response to an electrical input signal (CS). The system includes sensing means (S, PS, G, P), which can sense a predetermined condition and generate an interrupt signal in response thereto. Furthermore interrupt means are provided which interrupt the electrical input signal in response to the interrupt signal.
