The objective of the invention is to provide an alternative way of wrapping a product with cardboard at faster speed and maintain stacking strength. This accomplished by bending two strips of cardboard into the shape of a U channel where the sides of the U form an angle smaller than 90 degrees. The sides of the U channel cardboard will be open by a guide that will allow each U channel cardboard piece to slide around each end of the product without requiring glue to hold the U Channel in position. By maintaining an angle of less than 90 degrees the U channel cardboard act like a spring clamp around the product and maintains its position on the conveyor belt while the product is film wrapped and the film is heat shrunk.

These plates (25,26) are preferably hinged on two slides (2,3) suitable to be contemporaneously either approached or moved apart from each other as a function of the width of the bundle (29) to be laterally sealed. Two nozzles (31,32) are moreover provided, which form air jets against laterally protruding portions (30) of the plastic film, so that said protruding portions are easily folded by said plates (25,26). A so closed and sealed bundle is then carried inside an oven for thermally shrinking the wrapped film.

The process comprises the steps of creating a first seal on a tubular film (21), thereby creating a semi-sealed package(22), creating a second seal (218) on the semi-sealed package (22), thereby creating a sealed package (23), and creating a substantially transversal cut in the tubular film (21), thereby separating the (semi) sealed package (22, 23) from a subsequent portion of the tubular film (21). The process further comprises the step of creating an incision (214) in a section of the first or second seal (218), the incision defining a pre-determined breaking zone (216) in the tubular film (21) of the sealed package (23).
