    摘要: A size is applied to a moving strand (14). A collet (22) is rotated to wind the strand (14) and build a package (19). The strand (14) is reciprocated with a strand reciprocator (30) to lay the strand (14) in a pattern on the package surface (20) as the package (19) rotates. The strand reciprocator (30) is lubricated with a lubricant which is compatible with the size. An apparatus is also provided for winding the fiber strand (14) to build and form a cylindrical strand package (19) of wound strand having a radially outer surface (20) with first and second edges (a) and a central portion (20b) therebetween. A strand reciprocator (30) is mounted to guide the strand from edge to edge of the package and to lay the strand in a helical pattern on the package surface (20) as the package (19) rotates. A lubricator (70) for atomizing a lubricant creates a fog of small airborne lubrication particles. Lubrication locations include the cam (32) surface and the grooves (34) provided thereon, the cam (32) bearings and the roller bail bearings. A roller bail (42) is mounted for contacting the package surface (20) as the package (19) is being built for holding the strand (14) in place on the package (19). The roller bail (42) is divided into separate rollers (46) with each roller (46) contacting the package surface (20) at one of the edges (a) and not contacting the central portion (20b).

The preferred method includes: a) supplying a plurality of strands (20); b) aligning each of the strands in generally adjacent and coplanar alignment (16); c) oscillating the strands about a pivot axis while maintaining the strands in alignment (22); d) reciprocating a reciprocating device generally parallel to a central axis of rotation of a rotatable packaging collector (54); and e) winding the strands about an arcuate surface (57) of the collector to form a multilayered package, such that within each layer of strands wound upon the surface of the rotatable packaging collector (54), each of the plurality of strands is adjacent to each other and essentially free of overlap. The preferred apparatus includes a strand supply device (12); an alignment device (18); a strand oscillating device (22) including a strand guide (24) adapted to oscillate about a pivot axis and having a first arm and a second arm spaced apart to receive and align the strands; a winding device including a rotatable packaging collector (54) having an arcuate surface (57) adapted to receive the strands to form a multilayered package; and a reciprocating device, such that within each layer of strands wound upon the surface of the rotatable packaging collector (54), each of the plurality of strands is adjacent to each other and essentially free of overlap.

The movable strand shoe (52A), strand array guide (102A) and pins may be utilized in pairs to produce a pair of packages (94A and 94B) on a single elongated collet (90A).

    摘要: A method of manufacturing glass yarns includes the steps of: forming a large number of glass filaments (2) by drawing molten glass through a large number of orifices formed on the bottom of a bushing (1); forming a plurality of strands (5) by separately gathering the large number of glass filaments (2) after a sizing agent has been applied thereto with a plurality of gathering rollers (4) aligned in such a manner that they are separated from each other by a predetermined gap (d); winding the plurality of strands (5) on one winding tube (9) mounted on a collet (7) while traversing the strands (5) by one traverse motion (6) thereby forming one cake (8); drawing out the ends of the plurality of strands (5) from the outer periphery of the cake (8) and rewinding the cake (8) in the state wherein the strands (5) are separated from each other by a rewinder after the cake (8) has been air dried; and winding each of the strands (5) as a glass yarn on a bobbin while twisting it. In this method, the gap (d) between adjacent gathering rollers (4), the drawing speed, and the rotational speed and shape of the traverse motion (6) are set such that they ensure that the plurality of strands (5) which are wound on the winding tube (9) so as to form the cake (8) are separated from each other by 2 to 3 mm, and that the average length of the adhered portions of the strands (5) which are formed by being passed through the turns of the traverse motion (6) is between 150 and 350 mm, thereby solving the problems involving the generation of fluffs and breakage of filaments (2) and enabling glass yarns of good quality to be manufactured efficiently.
