A hand-held flow metering device 10 for dispensing a pressurized fluid comprises a valve 26, a flow meter 28, a trigger lever 20, a trigger release mechanism 30 and meter electronics 84. The valve 26 is connected to the pressurized fluid to regulate flow of the pressurized fluid through the device 10. The flow meter 28 is disposed within the flow of pressurized fluid to measure volumetric flow of the pressurized fluid. The trigger lever 20 is configured to be manually displaced to mechanically open the valve 26. The trigger release mechanism 30 is connected to the trigger lever 26 and is selectively actuated to mechanically prevent the trigger lever 20 from opening the valve 26 when the trigger lever 20 is displaced. The meter electronics 84 is connected to the flow meter 28 and the trigger release mechanism 30 to actuate the trigger release mechanism 30 based on output of the flow meter 28.

A method and apparatus for loading an aircraft fuel tank with sufficient fuel for a selected flight based on the measured energy content of the fuel. The density of the fuel loaded on the aircraft is measured and converted to a value for energy content based upon an observed relationship between energy content and density. In a second preferred embodiment, the energy content per unitvolume of the loaded fuel is measured directly with a calorimeter. Both embodiments utilize learning to narrow the error band of the energy content density relationship and to recalibrate the calorimeter.

A filter device for filtering a liquid portion by passing it through a filtering medium, comprising a cartridge with a treatment region filled with a filtering medium, an inlet and an outlet for liquid. The cartridge comprises a first array of walls arranged in the treatment region defining an array of spaces in between said walls for the liquid successively flowing through said spaces into a tubular vessel at the liquid outlet, the dimensions of said tubular vessel being selected to create an effect of communicating vessels within said array of spaces, to maintain a part of the filtering medium in liquid environment. The filter device also comprises a locking mechanism located within the liquid flow path through the cartridge and configured to block the liquid inlet and/or outlet upon expiration of life time of the filtering medium, comprising an erodible member and a mechanical assembly coupled to said erodible member and shiftable from its unlocking positions into its locking position.
