The present invention relates to hydroxyapatite doped with Fe 2 + ions and Fe 3 + ions which partially substitute the calcium ions in the crystal lattice. The hydroxyapatite is characterized by an intrinsic magnetism of 0.05 to 8 emu/g, measured by applying a magnetic field of 34 Oe, due to the presence of magnetic nano-domains in the crystal lattice of HA, given the limited amount of magnetic secondary phases present, less than about 3% by volume. The intrinsically magnetic hydroxyapatite can be loaded with biological substances selected in the group consisting of proteins, genes, stem cells, growth factors, vascularization factors, active substances and drugs, under the control of an external magnetic field, as a carrier and release agent for biological substances or drugs, as a contrast agent in diagnostics or for bone or osteocartilage regeneration.

The present invention provides anhydrous dicalcium phosphate particles which satisfies the conflicting requirements of the improvement of handling properties such as high flowability and a small bulk and the improvement of tableting properties at the same time during preparation and a method of producing the same. The method of producing anhydrous dicalcium phosphate by heating water suspensions of a phosphoric acid compound and a calcium compound at 50 to 100°C, comprises the step of: heating the phosphoric acid compound and the calcium compound at 75°C or higher in advance to carry out a neutralization reaction in the presence of an alkali to obtain agglomerated anhydrous dicalcium phosphate particles.

The present invention especially relates to the mechanism and to the technological process for synthesizing nanosized crystalline hydroxyapatite. In particular, for producing nano-sized crystalline hydroxyapatite whose particles have nano dimensions in length 'l', width, 'd' and thickness 'h', wherein 'h' is practically corresponding to the size of one transmission of crystallographic cell a method is disclosed involving the steps of mixing and homogenizing a suspension comprising calcium hydroxide with an amount of phosphoric acid within a first reactor thereby adjusting a defined alkaline pH-value of the resulting mixture, feeding the mixture into a second reactor for causing phase transformations of the mixture and feeding the mixture into a third reactor for providing a suspension by adding a suspension of calcium hydroxide to the mixture to then feed the suspension into the first reactor, whereby each of these steps is cyclically carried out in continuos periodical conditions within at least three stages thereby producing nano-sized crystalline particles of pure hydroxyapatite as a solid phase.

The particles have superior dispersibility and are useful in the fields such as carriers for pharmaceuticals and so on, adsorbents, absorbents, sustained-release materials, filtering agents, biological materials, fillers for plastics, and anti-blocking agents for films and so on.

A calcium compound treated with a cycloinulooligosaccharide are obtained by the reaction of an aqueous calcium hydroxide suspension with carbonic acid gas, mineral acid or a salt thereof in the presence of a cycloinulooligosaccharide. The calcium compound has controlled crystal grain diameters and forms and is excellent in dispersibility and redispersibility, thus being useful as a filler.
