Described are stable aqueous polyolefin-wax dispersions containing: A) 5 to 65 % by wt. of polyethylene or polypropylene wax with an average particle size of 1 to 50 νm and an acid number of less than 5 mg KOH/g of wax and, as dispersant; B) 0.5 to 20 % by wt. of the reaction product of 1 to 50 mol of a 1,2-alkylene oxide with 2 to 4 C-atoms, and a glyceride of unsaturated C16-C22 monocarboxylic acids with one or more primarily ethylenic unsaturated bonds and which may also contain hydroxy groups. These dispersions are suitable for use in the manufacture of floor- and stonework-care agents, shoe-care agents, car-care agents, printing inks, printing pastes, paints, packaging, lubricating grease, vaseline, drawing agents, sealing and insulating compounds for electrical components, aqueous wood glazes, hot-melt coatings, cosmetic preparations and toothpaste, in the plastics-processing industry, in paper manufacturing and in corrosion protection, in the finishing of yarns and fabrics, in treating leather and as mould-release agents in the chill-casting, die-casting and centrifugal casting of non-ferrous metals.

R¹ = Alkylrest mit 7 bis 17 Kohlenstoffatomen, n = 2 oder 3 und b) dem Salz eines Amins der allgemeinen Formel R²N [(C₂H₄O) m H]₂ mit einer physiologisch unbedenklichen Carbonsäure, R² = Alkylrest mit 8 bis 18 Kohlenstoffatomen, Summe der Einheiten m = 20 bis 100, wobei die Bestandteile a) und b) in einem Gewichtsverhältnis von 4 : 1 bis 1 : 1 vorliegen. Die Dispersionen können durch Einrühren einer Schmelze des Polyethylens, welche die Komponente b) enthält, in Wasser, welches die Komponente a) enthält, erhalten werden. Die Dispersionen eignen sich insbesondere zur sogenannten Kaltendvergütung von Glas. Die erhaltenen Überzüge weisen sehr gute Glättewerte auf. Die Überzüge sind gegen mehrfache Einwirkung heißer wäßriger Waschflotten stabil und behalten ihre Glätte.

This invention provides a method for rendering a water-based coating (i.e., one which contains essentially no organic solvent) fluorescent. Also provided is a method for measuring the extent of coverage and thickness of a water-based coating by incorporating therein a minor amount of an emulsion of an insoluble compound which absorbs ultraviolet light and fluoresces strongly in the visible region of the spectrum, so that the intensity of the fluorescence serves as an indication of the degree of coverage and thickness of the film. Also provided is a method for enhancing the apparent brightness of a film pigmented with light colored pigments. In the case where white pigments such as titanium dioxide are used, the effect is to increase the apparent whiteness of the film.

The present invention relates to a novel composition for coating articles of rubber or latex which is based on polar polyethylenic waxes, polymers derived from dimethylsiloxane and surfactants, and the purpose of which is to prevent adhesion between the surfaces of the coated material and to increase sliding on the coated material. The application of this product does not require previous treatment of the rubber or latex article and can be carried out in the production chain itself before the article is vulcanised. The invention has a potential use in the manufacture of surgical gloves because it facilitates the fitting thereof.
