Aspects of the present invention relate to a white phosphor, a light emission device including the same, and a liquid crystal display (LCD) including the light emission device as a backlight unit. The white phosphor includes: 40 to 50 parts by weight of a blue phosphor selected from the group consisting of ZnS:(Ag,Cl), ZnS:(Ag,Al), ZnS:(Ag,Al,Cl), and a combination thereof; 23 to 36 parts by weight of a green phosphor including (Sr 1-x Ca x )Ga 2 S 4 :Eu (0≤ x 2 O 3 :Eu, Y 2 O 3 :(Eu,Tb), Y 2 O 2 S:Eu, Y 2 O 2 S:(Eu,Tb), and a combination thereof.

Abstract:
It is an object of the present invention to provide a light-emitting material with high light emission intensity. It is another object to provide a light-emitting element with high light emission efficiency. Moreover, it is another object to provide a light-emitting device and an electronic appliance with reduced power consumption. A light-emitting material contains at least a light-emitting substance, a base material, and an additive which is an element belonging to group 14 of the periodic table or a compound containing two or more kinds of elements belonging to group 14, or a compound containing at least two or more kinds of elements each belonging to a different group chosen from group 13, group 14, and group 15. Due to the light-emitting material, a light-emitting element and an electronic appliance which has high light emission efficiency and can be driven at a low voltage can be obtained.

An orange-yellow-emitting zinc sulfide-based electroluminescent phosphor is described wherein the phosphor has a brightness of greater than 10 foot-Lamberts. More particularly, the phosphor has a brightness of at least about 13 foot-Lamberts and an x color coordinate from about 0.51 to about 0.56 and a y color coordinate from about 0.42 to about 0.48. The zinc sulfide phosphor is activated with manganese, copper, chlorine, and a metal selected from gold and antimony.

A process for improving the half-life of ZnS:Cu,Cl electroluminescent phosphor wherein the improvement comprises firing a previously first fired material comprised of ZnS:Cu,Cl with a quantity of MgSO 4 •7H 2 O to form a second fired material. The quantity is from 0.015 to 0.15 mole of MgSO 4 •7H 2 O/mole of ZnS.
