Provided are a phosphor which is capable of emitting green light of high luminance and in which unfavorable effects on other members has been reduced so as to be applicable to white light having excellent light emitting characteristics, a light emitting device using the phosphor, and a method for manufacturing the phosphor. The phosphor containing silicon, magnesium, and chlorine, and activated with europium and capable of emitting green light, in which the molar ratio of chlorine to magnesium is in a range of 1.0 ‰¤ Cl/Mg ‰¤ 1.9. Introduction of chlorine at such a composition ratio improves the light emitting characteristics and the amount of chlorine dissolved.

The application relates to a manufacturing method of a phosphor comprising: an oxygen content reduction step of reducing oxygen content and increasing nitrogen content in oxynitride phosphor powder having a β-type Si 3 N 4 crystal structure including Eu by heat-treating the powder in a reduction-nitridation atmosphere and a manufacturing method of a phosphor comprising: heat-treating silicon nitride raw powder in a reduction-nitridation atmosphere; adding raw powder containing at least Eu and Al to the treated powder in which oxygen content is reduced during the heat treatment; and firing the powder at a temperature of 2200 °C or lower after the addition.

Provided are an oxynitride phosphor comprising a JEM crystal as a main component and being characterized by light-emitting properties (light emission color or excitation property, light emission spectrum) that is different from the known JEM phosphor, and an application thereof. The phosphor of the present invention comprises the JEM crystal activated with Eu and represented by MAl (Si, Al) 6 (O, N) 10 (where the M element is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Ca, Sr, Eu, La, Sc, Y, and lanthanoid elements; and includes at least Eu as well as Ca and/or Sr).

This invention provides a blue phosphor, which has excellent durability and high brightness, particularly a blue phosphor powder which can realize high-brightness luminescence upon exposure to an electron beam. The phosphor is characterized in that the phosphor comprises at least europium dissolved in a solid solution form in an inorganic crystal having a crystal structure of an AlN crystal or an AlN solid solution crystal and, upon exposure to an excitation source, emits divalent europium-derived fluorescence having a peak at a wavelength in the range of 430 nm to 500 nm. In this case, the incorporation of a predetermined metal element and silicon is more preferred. There are also provided a production process of this phosphor and a lighting equipment comprising the blue phosphor.
