The invention relates to a modified superabsorbent polymer (abbreviated to "SAP") that is capable of being obtained by a manufacturing process that comprises the following steps: a) a mixture comprising at least one fertilizer solution and at least one SAP is prepared; b) the SAP is left to swell in said mixture; c) the fertilizer contained in the mixture obtained at the end of step b) is crystallized; d) a modified SAP is recovered in the mixture; e) optionally, a step of shaping the modified SAP recovered in step d) is carried out. The modified SAP may be used for fertilizing plants or for retaining water and releasing it to the plants in a manner spread out over time, and also in the medical field as a constituent element of a medical device configured for generating cold on a human or animal body.

In particular, the invention is directed to a system for stabilizing or bonding soil for road or pavement constructions, thereby providing improved vehicular access, although the scope of the invention is not necessarily limited to the above.
