The invention relates to a method for producing a catalyst for cracking organic carbon compounds, said method comprising the following steps: a) producing an aqueous suspension comprising red mud and at least one calcium salt, b) heating the suspension to a temperature between 25°C and 78°C, and c) removing at least most part of an aqueous phase from a solid product mixture produced in step b), said solid product mixture comprising the catalyst. Using a method and installation for separating acid components, dust and tar from hot gases of gasification installations, an economical method using a corresponding installation is to be created, which enables acid compounds HF, HCl, H 2 S, dust and tar to be reliably separated in the highest possible temperature range. Said aim is achieved in that the media flow leaving the gasification at above 700°C is fed with additives to a desulphurisation process and subsequently to a combined cyclone 9 having associated filter cartridges 17 in a common vessel 8, and the gas is withdrawn for further use downstream of the filter cartridges.

A first aspect of the present invention relates to a method for reducing ash agglomeration in a parallel entrainment fluidized bed gasifier/combustor system by adding a quantity of MgO to the feedstock used in the gasifier/combustor system. A second aspect of the present invention relates to an apparatus and method for reducing erosion at piping bends in fluidized particulate piping systems which utilizes sand retention cavities positioned to receive and retain a portion of the fluidized particulate. A third aspect of the present invention relates to an apparatus and method for facilitating the flow of sand and char fragments from a first compartment to a second compartment while minimizing the flow of gases between the first and second compartments.
