The compositions are useful as coatings or incorporated as melt additives. The fluorochemical compositions impart oil and water repellency to the substrate. In other aspects, this invention relates to processes for imparting oil and water repellency characteristics to substrates and articles.

The present invention provides a fluorochemical composition for treatment of a fibrous substrate. The fluorochemical composition comprises at least one fluorochemical compound and a blocked isocyanate extender derived from a condensation of a polyisocyanate, a diol selected from the group consisting of fatty ester diols, polyester diols, polytetramethylene glycol, dimer diols and mixtures thereof and an isocyanate blocking agent. The present invention also provides a fibrous substrate treated with the above composition and the use of the above fluorochemical composition to impart water and/or oil repellency to a fibrous substrate.

A direct application process by spray, pad, foam, flood or roller coating of a chemical composition of Novolak resin, polymethacrylic acid, sulphated or sulphonated surfactants and a fluorochemical to provide stain resistance/release to fibrous material, particularly nylon and wool carpets. The finish offers desirable oil, water and dry soil repellency and acid dye stain release without adverse effect on texture (handle) and pile opening. The invention relates to the use of diethanolamine lauryl sulfate as a foaming surfactant that also has stain release property against artificial coloring material commonly found in food and beverages.

According to the present invention, the water-repellency which is durable to washing and friction is imparted to a textile, and the touch, the feeling and the flexibility of the textile itself are not deteriorated.
