The invention relates to a system for opening and closing a window aperture, the system comprising: a moveable window panel; a pulley assembly coupled to the moveable window panel; a counterweight; and a pulley actuation mechanism. The moveable panel is heavier than the counterweight, the latter being attached to a first lateral side of the moveable panel via a first part of the pulley assembly. The pulley actuation mechanism is attached to an opposite lateral side of the moveable panel via a second part of the pulley assembly. The pulley actuation mechanism is switchable between energised and non-energised states based on one or more trigger events, between a closing mode whereby the pulley actuation mechanism retracts the second part of the pulley assembly thus imparting an additional closing force to the moveable panel sufficient to raise the moveable panel; and an opening mode whereby the pulley actuation mechanism is non-energised such that a passive opening force is imparted to the moveable panel by virtue of its weight to lower the moveable panel. A system for controlling a window system based on aircraft detection is also disclosed.

The load bearing beam is fitted with rollers and retaining rollers mounted to the cover. Emergency (manual) operation of the gate is possible by turning a crank handle connected with the worm, having released the lock that prevents the worm from rotating on its axis.

The rectangular outer frame has side frames in which counterweight arrangements are housed, and forming a stack of weights which can be pulled upwardly within the housing by an elongate tensile element (20) which is secured at one end at or near the lower end of the stack, and at its other end is engageable with a lower end region of the movable window unit. Each elongate tensile element (20) is routed through an aperture in one of the facings which is located generally at the level of the lower frame member of the upper unit and the upper frame member of the lower unit in the closed position of the window assembly, so that the aperture is concealed from view, and also the tensile element also is not visible.

The electrically operated mechanism for the vertical displacement of a sliding fireplace door consists of a steel-wire (1) that connects the sliding door (4) to the dead-weight (5) and an electric motor (2) that sets the steel-wire (1) in motion. With the intervention of this mechanism the vertically sliding door can be opened or closed from a distance using an electrical switch or a remote-control system. Advantages of this invention are: a) The user-friendliness of the fireplace is improved and the danger of acquiring a bum during the manual operation of the door is eliminated, and b) The default position of the vertically sliding door is closed, due to the intervention of the electrically operated mechanism.
