An engine cooling apparatus includes a main cooling water passage (14) in which a cooling water is circulated from an outlet of and to an inlet of a water jacket in an engine (10) to cool the engine. A water pump (12) supplies the cooling water to the engine through the main cooling water passage. A heater passage (28) interconnects a heater core (30) and the main cooling water passage to circulate the cooling water. A throttle body passage (32) interconnects a throttle body (34) and the main cooling water passage to circulate the cooling water. A water valve (26) opens the heater passage when an operation starting requirement of a heater of a vehicle compartment is met, which allows the cooling water from the main cooling water passage to flow into the heater core through the heater passage. In this apparatus, the throttle body passage (32) is connected to the heater passage (28) in such a manner that the cooling water from the main cooling water passage (14) is supplied to the throttle body (34) through the throttle body passage only when the heater passage is opened by the water valve (26).

A heating device for heating an item such as a carburetor uses a first PTC heating element 12 positioned compactly within a housing 10 which is directly adjacent the item to be heated. A second PTC element 14 having a great electrical resistance increase at a prescribed temperature level is also compactly contained in the housing and is electrically connected in series to the first PTC element 12. This second PTC element 14 restricts the electric current flow through the device when the ambient temperature exceeds the prescribed temperature level.

An das Drosselklappengehäuse ist eine Entlüftungsleitung (11) für die Kurbelgehäusegase angeschlossen, die sich im Drosselklappengehäuse verzweigt und in Entlüftungsstellen (15, 14) vor und hinter der Drosselklappe mündet. Das in dem ringförmigen Kanal zirkulierende Kühlmittel verhindert gleichzeitig eine Vereisung der Drosselklappe und der Entlüftungsstellen.

An einem beheizten Drosselklappenstutzen [1] mündet die Kurbelgehäuse-Entlüftungsleitung [5] in eine wannenförmige Vertiefung [8] des Drosselklappenstutzens. Sich bildendes Kondensat sammelt sich in jener Vertiefung an, so daß ein Vereisen der Drosselklappe [3] auch bei stillstehender Brennkraftmaschine sicher vermieden wird. Vorteilhafterweise ist jene wannenförmige Vertiefung in einem separaten Anbauelement [7] vorgesehen dessen Wandung vom Kühlmittel der Brennkraftmaschine durchströmt und somit beheizt wird.

An apparatus for controlling a throttle valve has a body member (10) made of resin. The body member contains a motor for controlling a throttle valve (12). The motor has a yoke (14) as a one of components thereof. The yoke is exposed to an intake passage (11) at a slightly upstream side of the throttle valve. According to the arrangement, heat radiation from the motor is improved by intake airflow, and the throttle valve (12) can be prevented from an icing malfunction.
