The present invention relates to a process and apparatus for improving the combustion of a secondary fuel supplied in a first stream in a rotary kiln, wherein the rotary kiln has a burner assembly comprising a main burner and a plurality of feed channels for various media, of which one is designed for the supply of a secondary fuel, in particular in the form of particles or shreds in a stream of compressed air. According to the invention, a tubular oxygen lance for an oxygen-rich gas, in particular, technical grade gaseous oxygen, or an oxygen-rich liquid, in particular, technical grade liquid oxygen, with an angled nozzle at its end, is arranged in or on a feed channel of the burner assembly, whereby the oxygen lance is brought into such a position that the oxygen emerging from a nozzle forms a second stream that strikes a first stream of secondary fuel. The present invention may be considered for new constructions of burner assemblies for rotary kilns, but mainly serves for retrofitting existing burner assemblies in which mostly feed channels are available as required for inserting an oxygen lance in the present invention. Targeted delivery of gaseous or liquid oxygen, or oxygen-enriched gas or liquefied gas to a secondary fuel can significantly improve the combustion process and consequently significantly reduce exhaust emissions, in particular, the emission of carbon monoxide.

The leading part of the chute (10) is formed by a collar (13) projecting into the rotary drum (1). The collar (13) is releasably fitted on the chute (10) and closed on the rotary drum (1) side. To design this inlet in such a way that the time between major breakdowns and the overall ease of maintenance is improved over those of prior art inlets, the collar (13) is coated with a heatproof abrasion protector (19, 20) of ceramic material on the surfaces facing the rotary drum (1). In addition, the collar (13) has a projection (14) at the rear by means of which the collar (13) can be suspended on the chute (10) or a part thereof.

A method and apparatus for heat treatment of lime mud comprises drying of the lime mud to be introduced into the lime reburning kiln (5) in a pneumatic dryer (3) by means of flue gases discharged from the lime reburning kiln in order to regenerate the lime content of the lime mud. From a drying filter (6), the lime mud thickened to a dry solids content of over 75 %, preferably to 80 %, is introduced into a feed chamber (2) through which an adjustable portion of the flue gas is conducted. Depending on the gas amount, 100 % or less of the lime mud is entrained with the gas into the dryer (3), the remaining portion falling into the lower section (14) of the feed chamber, wherefrom it is further transferred into the lime reburning kiln (5).

Gemäß der Erfindung wird eine rohrförmige Sauerstofflanze (12) für ein sauerstoffreiches Gas, insbesondere technisch reinen gasförmigen Sauerstoff (11), mit einer abgewinkelten Düse (14) an ihrem Ende in einem Zufuhrtunnel (20) der Brenneranordnung (9) angeordnet, wobei die Sauerstofflanze (12) in eine solche Lage gebracht wird, dass der aus der Düse (14) austretende Sauerstoff (11) einen zweiten Strahl (8) bildet, der auf den ersten Strahl (7) trifft. Die Erfindung kann bei Neubauten von Brenneranordnungen für Drehrohröfen berücksichtigt werden, dient aber hauptsächlich auch der Nachrüstung von schon vorhandenen Brenneranordnungen, in denen meistens Zufuhrtunnel, wie sie für die vorliegende Erfindung zum Einführen einer Sauerstofflanze benötigt werden, vorhanden sind. Die gezielte Zuführung von Sauerstoff oder mit Sauerstoff angereicherter Luft zu einem sekundären Brennstoff kann dessen Verbrennung erheblich verbessern und damit den Schadstoffausstoß, insbesondere den Ausstoß an Kohlenmonoxid, signifikant verringern.

In a preferred embodiment, that apparatus has a movable vessel that is movable between a collection position and a discharge position. The vessel has an open top and an open base. The open base supports a discharge gate that is movable between an open position and a closed position. In the closed position, the discharge gate prevents discharge of the material from the vessel while the vessel is moving from the collection position to the discharge position. An actuable vessel cover is adapted to cover the open top of the vessel when the vessel is at the discharge position. A low pressure air injection assembly, supported by the vessel cover, injects air into the vessel to force discharge of the material through the open base, the discharge gate and into the kiln.

The invention relates to a device for feeding lumpy alternative fuels and/or waste products into a revolving tubular furnace at a location situated between the feeding end and the dropping end of the revolving tubular furnace. A closeable opening is provided in the casing of the revolving tubular furnace. The opening supports an inwardly opening flap (12) that is spring-loaded in the closing direction, and a lifting device, e.g. a fork (5), is connected to the opening in an essentially radial direction. This lifting device enables the fed fuels or waste products to be dropped into the revolving tubular furnace under the influence of gravitational force and while surmounting the closing force of the flap.
