The invention relates generally to the conversion of biomass to oxygenated hydrocarbons. More particularly, an improved biomass feed system or process for conveying biomass to a reactor for conversion to oxygenated hydrocarbons is provided. The provided system or process utilizes a spool piece adapted to convey solid particulate biomass from a lower pressure to a higher pressure. The spool piece conveys the solid particulate biomass material either directly to a reactor operated at or below the higher pressure or first to a vibratory feeder and then to such reactor. The vibratory feeder can include a bowl and an outlet spout extending tangentially from the bowl.

The present invention provides a biomass combustion burner applied to a pulverized coal-fired boiler to burn biomass fuel, a biomass-mixed fired boiler that reduces an amount of CO2 derived from fossil fuels, and a method for burning biomass fuel using the foregoing. The biomass combustion burner includes a biomass fuel jet nozzle (10) having a fuel jet port (19) that jets biomass fuel conveyed by primary air; a secondary air nozzle (20) having a secondary air jet port (23) that surrounds the fuel jet port; and a tertiary air nozzle (25) having a tertiary air jet port (27) that surrounds the secondary air jet port. The biomass fuel jet nozzle includes a fuel concentration adjusting section (15) that changes a biomass fuel stream into a swirl flow to thereby make a fuel concentration higher on an outer circumferential portion side; and a degree-of-swirl adjusting plate (17) that reduces a degree of swirl of a jetting fuel stream. An amount of the secondary air is reduced and a buffer stream is formed between the fuel stream and a tertiary air stream to thereby improve ignitability and flame holding performance.

The invention relates to a method and device for feeding industrial combustion plants with wastes, in particular with secondary fuels, and to the thus produced fuel, in order to better use, in particular a secondary fuel and to obtain a low-cost usable product which can be introduced into a combustion chamber in an improved manner, especially in order to reliably avoid obstructions in ducts leading to a boiler. The inventive method consists in crushing wastes in a crushing unit, extracting crushed wastes from said crushing unit practically just prior to the introduction thereof into the boiler by means of a conveyer which is arranged in an extracting device, on a pneumatic conveyer and in transporting said wastes to the combustion chamber by means of the pneumatic conveyer.

In a preferred embodiment, that apparatus has a movable vessel that is movable between a collection position and a discharge position. The vessel has an open top and an open base. The open base supports a discharge gate that is movable between an open position and a closed position. In the closed position, the discharge gate prevents discharge of the material from the vessel while the vessel is moving from the collection position to the discharge position. An actuable vessel cover is adapted to cover the open top of the vessel when the vessel is at the discharge position. A low pressure air injection assembly, supported by the vessel cover, injects air into the vessel to force discharge of the material through the open base, the discharge gate and into the kiln.

A body to be treated such as a soil or a flying burned ash is introduced into a sealable thermal decomposition furnace (310) and is heated under reduced pressure. A gaseous effluent derived from the body to be treated is treated in a manner wherein formation or resynthesis of dioxin is inhibited. A heating residue of the body to be treated is cooled after it is purged with a gas for displacement which is free of a halogen and has no ability to form an organic halide. By such a treatment, a content of an organic halide remaining in the heating residue of the body to be treated can be reduced to a very low level.

A device for feeding continuously a system for the pneumatic conveyance of refuse-derived fuels (RDF) constituted by a motorized screw feeder, into which the RDF is fed through a supply hopper; by a diverging conical sealing tube, in which the RDF transferred by the screw feeder accumulates; a chamber for mixing RDF and compressed air, in which there is a fan driven by an electric motor. The compressed air fed to the mixing chamber exits, conveying the RDF, from the pneumatic conveyance tube. The device is inclined at least 30° to allow to fill the conical sealing tube and the taper of a few degrees of the conical tube allows to form a plug of material by virtue of the pressure of the pneumatic conveyance air, thus avoiding unwanted seepage into the feeder hopper. The device therefore allows the regular remote conveyance of the RDF by pneumatic methods.
